Some people say “yes” to God once. Larry McCallon has said it 107 times and counting.
At 86 years old, Larry is still boarding planes, crossing oceans, and serving alongside IMB missionaries around the world. His favorite trips are the ones that bring him face-to-face with missionary kids—laughing with them, listening to them, and reminding them that they are loved and never forgotten.
For more than two decades, “Mr. Larry,” as they call him, has led a class of 13-year-old boys at IMB gatherings across Europe. Those boys have grown up to become pastors, teachers, engineers—and even missionaries themselves. All because one man kept showing up, year after year, to say yes to God’s call.
“A lot of missionaries leave the field when their kids become teenagers for various reasons. This is what motivates me to come back. You never know what’s going to be that little difference in a teen’s life,” Larry says.
Larry’s story reminds us of something we all need to hear: saying “yes” to God doesn’t always mean moving overseas. Sometimes it means simply showing up—again and again—and trusting Him to use your obedience to change lives for eternity.
I have the privilege of seeing this kind of impact every day through the IMB—missionaries who say “yes” to leave everything familiar and take the gospel to places it’s never been, churches who say “yes” to send and support those who go, and believers around the world who say “yes” to pray, to give, and to stand with them in the work.
Each “yes” is a response to Jesus’ command in Matthew 28—to go and make disciples of all nations. And when we say yes together, God multiplies those acts of obedience in ways we could never imagine.
Through the faithfulness of believers like Larry—and like you—lives are being changed. People are hearing the name of Jesus for the first time. New churches are being planted. The gospel is taking root in places once thought unreachable.
