LORD

V 4
the name LORD was given to Jesus as the name
a sovereign ruler no other above
a name above all of the angels
a name of the creator ruler of the universe
we are going to for the next 9 verses see the superiority of The Son/ Jesus to the angels
Remember this book is to the Jewish people who know the Old Testament
and the author of Hebrews is going to give a compelling argument for this fact
we will see the question to which of the angels do we see the Father saying this or that about

To Which of the Angels?

V 5
You are my Son
the Old Testament does call the angels the sons of God Plural.
in the New Testament the Christian are called the sons of God plural.
But there is only one Son
the first part of this verse is in
Psalm 2:7 LSB
“I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.
The second part is in
1 Chronicles 17:13–14 LSB
“I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; and I will not remove My lovingkindness from him, as I removed it from him who was before you. “But I will cause him to stand in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”
Here David is promised a son who will be the Messiah who will actually be the Son of God

even the demon angels have to fall down and worship Jesus
Psalm 97:7 LSB
Let all those be ashamed who serve graven images, Who boast of idols; Worship Him, all you gods!
First born is the one who is made to have sovereignty over the rest / not necessarily the one born first
Psalm 89:26–29 LSB
“He will call to Me, ‘You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.’ “I also shall make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. “My lovingkindness I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall be confirmed to him. “So I will set up his seed to endure forever And his throne as the days of heaven.
Colossians 1:17–18 LSB
And He is before all things, And in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; Who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
V 7

He makes His angels the winds, His ministers flaming fire.
V 8-9

Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your companions.
2 Samuel 7:16 LSB

V 11-12
Psalm 102:26–27 LSB

Isaiah 51:6 LSB
“Lift up your eyes to the sky, Then look to the earth beneath; For the sky will vanish like smoke, And the earth will wear out like a garment, And its inhabitants will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness will not be dismayed.
2 Peter 3:10–13 LSB
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be found out. Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens burning will be destroyed, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
V 13
Psalm 110:1 LSB

Now it happened that when they brought these kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel and said to the chiefs of the men of war who had gone with him, “Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings.” So they came near and put their feet on their necks.
All of these verses prove that He is superior to the angels
angels are a tool to be used by God for His purposes
Jesus is God, He created the angels from nothing
in the light of what we have learned in Chapter 1 of Hebrews
today’s church should recognize and affirm the supreme divinity and unparalleled nature of Jesus Christ.
The passage aims to correct any misconception that Jesus is merely another angel, instead proving His superiority over angelic being
we see the emphasis Christ’s divine nature as the radiance of God’s glory and perfect representation of His being,
this this shows His perfect sacrifice and highlights His holiness.
He is the preexistent, divine Son of God, who has accomplished cleansing of sins once and for all
it is in Jesus that we put our trust to save us from our sins.
we don’t trust in angels, the church, or even ourselves
our faith has to be rooted on someone and He is Jesus
