Bible Impact Lesson - 6:45-7:00

Who has ever imagined of being a spy before?
Can anyone think of a Bible story that has spies in it? (12 spies in Canaan)
This story has a lot of neat details about history and people, but we learn a valuable lesson about obedience and disobedience. In the story of the 12 spies in the land of Canaan, we learn a whole lot about obedience and disobedience. So, let’s take a look at this story for ourselves...
Who remembers where the nation of Israel just escaped from? (Egypt) (NEW SLIDE)
God delivered them with His great hand, and now they were wandering in the wilderness just waiting to get into the promised land.
Numbers 13:2 NKJV
2 “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them.”
12 men go to spy the land (1 from each tribe)
How many were bad and how many were good? (10 bad, 2 good)
(NEW SLIDES)
Came back with all sorts of goods
Numbers 13:23 NKJV
23 Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs.
Picture verse art for vs. 27 (NEW SLIDE)
Numbers 13:27 NKJV
27 Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
If you were one of the people there and you heard this about the land, would you enter in? (Of course!)
Picture verse art for vs. 28 (NEW SLIDE)
Numbers 13:28 NKJV
28 Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.
How about now, would you still go in?
Caleb and Joseph would
The nation of Israel would not though, they cried… (NEW SLIDE
Numbers 14:1–2 NKJV
1 So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. 2 And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!
What do you think about that attitude?
Do you think they believed God could take care of them? (No)
What do we call it when we don’t believe? (Unbelief)
The Children of Israel did not believe that God would stay true to His promise, and because they did not believe, they disobeyed God.
Guys and girls, we need to watch out. Do you think it’s easy for us to obey God if we don’t believe He can take care of us? (no)
Flu shots: We are scared of flu shots… Parents tell us to obey them and take the shot… If I don’t believe my dad is right, am I going to have a hard time obeying him? Absolutely! Mom and dad want you to get the flu shot so you can avoid the nasty flu. That’s why we need to believe first, and obey.
Who remembers what the consequences were for Israel when they disobeyed? (Die in the wilderness, no promised land for that generation)
Application: Have a heart full of faith, without that we will not obey God, our parents, and our leaders...
