Future-Proof Faith — Week 1
Matthew 24:1–14 KJV 1900
And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
INTRO: STORY-BASED OPENER —
“THE DAY THE GYM SHUT DOWN”
A few years ago, I walked into the gym ready to train. It was one of those mornings where you’re fired up, playlist loaded, pre-workout kicking in—and then you see a handwritten sign taped to the door:
“Closed until further notice.”
No warning. No explanation. No alternative.
Just locked doors and a reminder that even things you count on… can disappear.
I remember thinking, “You’ve got to be kidding me. This place has been open for years. This is solid!”
But there I was, standing in the parking lot holding my gym bag, realizing that what felt secure wasn’t as secure as I thought.
And that’s exactly the moment Jesus creates in Matthew 24.
The disciples are walking out of the temple—this massive, impressive structure that symbolized stability, identity, and national pride.
And Jesus says, “Yeah… it’s coming down.”
Everything in this life you think is unshakeable… can collapse.
Not because God wants to scare you—but because He wants to prepare you.

WHAT JESUS IS REALLY DOING

Matthew 24 is not Jesus trying to get us obsessed with charts, timelines, or conspiracies.
It’s Jesus shaping disciples who can endure pressure without losing faith.
This isn’t doom-and-gloom.
It’s strength training for your soul.
So Jesus gives three ways to build a faith that outlasts whatever comes next.

WHEN LIFE SHAKES YOU, DON’T LET IT BREAK YOU

(Matthew 24:1–8)
The disciples show Jesus the temple buildings, almost bragging:
“Jesus, look how solid this is!”
And Jesus says, in essence:
“Don’t confuse big with permanent.”
Truth Bomb #1:
If your faith is built on what’s temporary, your hope will always feel threatened.
Let’s be honest—we all anchor our confidence to something.
Our money.
Our relationships.
Our health.
Our routines.
Our job titles.
Our reputation.
And Jesus is reminding us:
Nothing in this world is unshakeable except God Himself.

Illustration (Relatable):

Every September, Apple releases a new iPhone. And every September, millions of people suddenly feel like their perfectly fine phone is trash.
Why?
Because we tie stability to whatever’s newest, biggest, flashiest.
But Jesus isn’t impressed by upgrades.
He’s focused on foundations.

Application:

What have you built your peace on?
If it’s temporary… it’s shakable.
If it’s human… it’s fragile.
If it’s earthly… it’s replaceable.
But if it’s Christ… it’s unshakeable.

PRESSURE REVEALS WHAT YOU REALLY TRUST

(Matthew 24:9–12)
Jesus tells the disciples straight up:
Pressure is coming.
Persecution.
Pain.
People walking away.
Love growing cold.
He’s not scaring them—He’s forming them.

Truth Bomb #2:

Pressure doesn’t destroy your faith—it exposes its foundation.

Illustration:

Take a water bottle. Squeeze it, and whatever’s inside comes out.
The pressure didn’t create what’s inside—it just revealed it.
Life works the same way.
Pressure won’t suddenly “ruin” your spiritual life.
It simply reveals what was in you all along.
When life squeezes you…
• Does fear come out?
• Does anger come out?
• Does numbness come out?
• Or does faith come out?

Application:

Don’t run from pressure—let pressure guide you to deeper dependence on Jesus.
He’s not asking you to be strong.
He’s inviting you to be surrendered.

ENDURANCE IS BUILT ONE DECISION AT A TIME

(Matthew 24:13–14)
Jesus says, “The one who endures to the end will be saved.”
Not the one who’s perfect.
Not the one who knows it all.
Not the one who never struggles.
The one who keeps going.

Truth Bomb #3:

Endurance isn’t a feeling—it’s a pattern.

Illustration (Modern):

People don’t finish marathons because they “felt like it.”
They finish because of thousands of tiny decisions:
Lace up the shoes.
Show up again tomorrow.
Run when it rains.
Run when it’s boring.
Run when nobody is cheering.
Endurance isn’t built in the spotlight.
It’s built in the shadows.

Application:

Here’s how spiritual endurance forms:
• One prayer at a time
• One Scripture at a time
• One Sunday at a time
• One act of obedience at a time
• One surrender at a time
Faith doesn’t grow big all at once.
It grows consistent.

CLOSING ILLUSTRATION — “THE EARTHQUAKE-PROOF BUILDING”

Engineers design skyscrapers in earthquake zones differently.
They’re built with something called base isolation—a foundation that moves with the shaking instead of cracking under it.
The result?
Buildings that should fall… stand.
The shaking doesn’t stop.
But the building doesn’t break.
That’s Jesus’ whole point in Matthew 24:
He never promised the shaking would stop.
He promised you wouldn’t fall if your foundation is Him.
FINAL TRUTH BOMB OF THE MESSAGE:

The world may shake, but the disciple who endures stands on a kingdom that never will.
