Morning is:
Week 3: Empowered by His Spirit
Week 3: Empowered by His Spirit
Main Idea:
Main Idea:
The Holy Spirit is the divine power source that equips us to live boldly and faithfully in Jesus’ name.
He guides, strengthens, and sustains us so that we can face every challenge and fulfill God’s mission with confidence.
When we rely on His presence instead of our own ability, we experience the fullness of God’s power working through us.
Prayer:
“Holy Spirit, fill us anew with Your power and peace.
Help us to walk boldly in Jesus’ name, trusting Your strength in all we do.”
Scripture: John 14:16–17, Acts 1:8
(All scripture is taken from the NIV unless otherwise noted)
Introduction
Introduction
Over the past two weeks, we’ve discovered what it means to live in His Name.
We began by standing in awe of the authority, power, and peace found in the name of Jesus—the name above every name.
Then we learned that those who live under His name are also sent in His name—as ambassadors of His kingdom, carrying His message of reconciliation into the world.
But here’s the question that naturally follows:
How do we actually live this out?
How do ordinary people—people who struggle with fear, weakness, and doubt—represent the King of kings with courage and faithfulness in a world that so often rejects Him?
The answer is found in the promise Jesus gave before He ascended to heaven:
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” — Acts 1:8
We are not sent alone.
The same Spirit who empowered Jesus’ ministry now empowers His people.
The Holy Spirit is not an optional bonus for the Christian life—He is the source of our strength, courage, and endurance.
Jesus didn’t simply send us;
He equipped us.
He didn’t just commission us;
He empowered us.
Because the mission of God can only be accomplished through the power of God.
So today, as we continue our In His Name series, we’re going to look at what it means to live Empowered by His Spirit—to rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance, boldness, and strength in every area of life.
Main Teaching
Main Teaching
Last week, we talked about what it means to be sent in His name—that we are chosen and commissioned as ambassadors of Christ, carrying His message of reconciliation into the world.
But if we’re honest with ourselves, being sent can feel overwhelming.
We hear the call, we see the need, and yet we wonder, “How could God possibly use me?”
The mission of God feels so much bigger than our abilities, our courage, or our faith.
And Jesus knew we would feel that way.
That’s why He didn’t just send us—He empowered us.
Before His ascension, He told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem, promising that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them.
Remember, the call of Christ is never given apart from the power to fulfill it.
The One who sends you also sustains you.
The One who commands you to go also equips you to move.
That’s where we begin today—with the truth that we are empowered by His Spirit—God’s very presence within us, enabling us to live boldly and love faithfully wherever we go.
Point 1: The Presence of the Spirit — God With Us, Always
Point 1: The Presence of the Spirit — God With Us, Always
John 14:16–17 (NKJV)
16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14:16–17 (NKJV)
When Jesus told His disciples He was leaving, their hearts sank.
For three years, he had been their teacher, protector, and guide.
How could they possibly continue without Him?
This is a realistic situation that effects all of us, when we face our problems alone
But Jesus promised them something astonishing:
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.”
The phrase “another Advocate” in the original language means another of the same kind.
In other words, Jesus was saying, “I’m sending someone just like Me.”
The Holy Spirit is not a substitute for Christ’s presence—He is the presence of Christ, living within us.
What the disciples once experienced beside them, we now experience within us.
Wherever you go, the presence of God goes with you.
- In your weakness, He is your strength.
- In your confusion, He is your counselor.
- In your fear, He is your comforter.
This is the miracle of Pentecost—the God who once dwelled in temples now dwells in human hearts.
The Spirit is not distant or detached; He’s closer than your breath.
And because the Spirit abides in you, you are never truly alone in your calling.
Every step you take in His name is accompanied by the very presence of the One who sent you.
Point 2: Guided by the Spirit
Point 2: Guided by the Spirit
Text: John 14:16–17; Romans 8:14; Galatians 5:25
When Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to His disciples, He didn’t just speak of power—He spoke of presence.
In John 14:16–17, He said,
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.”
Jesus was preparing His followers for a huge change.
Up to that point, He had walked beside them.
But through the Spirit, He would now dwell within them.
The same voice that calmed the sea, the same wisdom that silenced the Pharisees, the same compassion that reached the broken—now lives in you and me.
And the Spirit doesn’t just comfort us—
He guides us. Romans 8:14 reminds us,
“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”
That means the Christian life isn’t meant to be lived on autopilot, Or rely
ing on todays GPS
It’s a daily walk of listening, discerning, and following His lead.
So what does that look like?
It means the Spirit prompts you to speak when silence would be easier—and sometimes to stay quiet when words would cause harm.
It means He convicts you when your heart drifts toward pride, anger, or fear, gently drawing you back to humility and trust.
It means He gives you wisdom when you face a crossroads and peace when you obey even without full understanding.
Galatians 5:25 puts it plainly:
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
To “keep in step” is a picture of relationship and rhythm—it’s learning to move at His pace, not rushing ahead in our own strength or lagging behind in hesitation.
But here’s the key: you can’t follow a voice you never stop to hear.
The Spirit’s guidance is often quiet and gentle, not loud or demanding.
It requires space—moments of prayer, reflection, and surrender where you say, “Lord, what are You speaking today?”
Pastor -
Can you share here how you personally listen to God? How do you stay connected to Him through prayer, silence, sabbath, and rest?
And as you cultivate that kind of listening heart, you’ll find that God’s Spirit doesn’t just lead you in the big decisions—He shapes your reactions, your tone, your compassion, and your perspective in everyday moments.
So, church, remember this:
The Holy Spirit is not just a power to use but a person to follow.
He’s not an impersonal force but an intimate guide.
When you let Him lead, you begin to see God’s fingerprints in every detail of your life.
Point 3: Strengthened by the Spirit
Point 3: Strengthened by the Spirit
Text: Acts 4:31; Ephesians 3:16–17; 2 Timothy 1:7
When we follow the Spirit’s leading, we quickly discover that obedience isn’t always easy.
The path of faith often leads us into resistance, uncertainty, and even suffering.
But that’s where the third truth comes in—the Holy Spirit doesn’t just guide us; He strengthens us.
In Acts 4, the early church faced threats, persecution, and fear.
Yet after they prayed, verse 31 says,
“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”
The Spirit didn’t remove their challenges—
He filled them with courage to meet those challenges head-on.
Their circumstances didn’t change, but they did.
And that’s the miracle of the Spirit’s strength—it transforms weak hearts into bold witnesses, fearful people into faithful followers.
Paul knew this truth deeply.
In Ephesians 3:16–17 he prayed,
“I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.”
Notice where the strength begins—it’s not in our outer circumstances, but in our inner being.
The Spirit gives us the resilience to stand when life presses hard against us.
He strengthens us to keep loving when it would be easier to walk away, to keep forgiving when the pain runs deep, and to keep believing when hope feels distant.
And this strength is not just emotional or psychological—it’s spiritual.
2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us,
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”
The Spirit empowers you with holy courage, fuels you with divine love, and grounds you with steady discipline.
That means no matter what you face—uncertainty, opposition, or spiritual attack—you are never powerless.
Maybe you’ve been feeling weary lately, like you’re running on empty.
Remember, strength in the Christian life doesn’t come from pushing harder—it comes from surrendering deeper.
The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, and He is more than enough to renew your strength.
When you come to the end of yourself, that’s often where His power begins to shine the brightest.
So when you face moments of weakness, don’t despair—depend.
When fear starts to whisper, listen instead to the voice of the Spirit reminding you that you belong to a King who equips His people for every good work.
His strength is not temporary; it’s eternal, and it’s available right now.
Conclusion
Conclusion
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been walking through what it means to live In His Name.
In week one, we learned that the name of Jesus carries ultimate authority—that when we act in His name, we move in His power, not our own.
In week two, we discovered that we are sent in His name, chosen by the King and commissioned as His ambassadors to carry His message of reconciliation to the world.
And today, we’ve seen that this mission isn’t something we carry on our own strength—it’s something the Spirit of God empowers us to do.
The Holy Spirit is not an optional add-on to the Christian life.
He is the very presence of God within you—your guide when you’re uncertain, your comfort when you’re weary, your courage when you’re afraid, and your strength when you feel weak.
He equips you to live the life Jesus has called you to live and to continue His mission in the world.
So when you wake up tomorrow, remember this: you don’t face your day alone.
The same Spirit who empowered Peter to preach, who gave Paul boldness in chains, who comforted Mary at the cross, and who raised Jesus from the dead—dwells in you.
That means you can face fear with faith.
You can move forward in confidence, even when the path isn’t clear.
You can walk into your calling with boldness, knowing that you are chosen, sent, and empowered in His name.
The Holy Spirit isn’t waiting for perfect people; He’s filling surrendered people—people willing to say, “Lord, here I am. Send me. Use me. Empower me.”
And when you live with that posture of surrender, your ordinary life becomes a powerful testimony of God’s extraordinary grace.
So as we continue this journey In His Name, let’s lean into the Spirit’s presence daily.
Let’s trust His voice, follow His lead, and rely on His power to do what we never could on our own.
Because wherever the Spirit of the Lord is—there is freedom, there is courage, and there is life.
Let’s pray together.
Let’s pray together.
Salvation:
Salvation:
The Word of God says in: John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you’d would like to receive Jesus today, please pray this prayer with all of us:
Lord I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I ask forgiveness of my sins, and I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
