Introduction

Last time, we looked at the simplicity of the gospel. We saw when we try establishing our own righteousness it make things much more complicated. we saw that the law was never intended to establish someones righteousness. The purpose of the law is to reveal ones sin or righteousness. It does make one a sinner. It does not make someone righteous. However, it will reveal someones righteousness or their sin. Furthermore, the whole law points a person toward their need for a Saviour. The ceremonial Law is a shadow of Christ and the moral law is the great revealer. It teaches us that the wages of sin is death.
This week I you see and understand that we are all on the same level when come to Christ for salvation. It does not mtter what tribe we are from, or which family, or city, or nation. It does not matter which ethnic group r any other thing. The only thing we bring to the cross is our sin and helplessness to do any thing about it.
Romans 10:1–13 KJV 1900
1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Pray
Romans 10:10 KJV 1900
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

For with the heart man believeth… (10)

Paul is talking not about the muscle in your chest, but rather the essence of who you are. He is talking about your soul. The part of you that speaks louder than your words. It is the part of that reveals the direction of your life.
There must be a change in the heart before there is a change is ones outward confession.
For out of the abundance of the heart a man speaketh.
Proverbs 4:23 KJV 1900
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.
Our heart is the part of it that we guard closely. We must do it diligently.
We must guard it with truth.
The only truth we have is the truth we find in the Word of God.
We must guard heart against a made up truth.
Jesus says it this way:
Luke 6:45 KJV 1900
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
When Paul is talking about the heart he is talking about the the way of life.
We’ve heard the saying, “actions speak louder than words.”
Romans 10:10 KJV 1900
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

… unto righteousness… (10)

The righteousness we are to believe is not a righteousness that we manufacture in our own mind. It is the righteousness that is found only in the Word of God.
It is by faith alone is Jesus Christ alone that we are justified.
The righteousness of God, which is what every person needs, given us, is the righteousness unto justification and the righteousness unto sanctification.
Faith is the condition of both.
Faith is the condition of justification Romans 5:1
Romans 5:1 KJV 1900
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Faith is the condition of our sanctification, that is, we live by faith. Acts 15:9
Acts 15:9 KJV 1900
9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
Our hearts are purified by faith, our purification is our sanctification is which is our life.
Matthew Henry helps us understand that this verse is a summary of salvation: first, our soul is given with a believing heart; second, our body is given with a confession out of our mouth.
Romans 10:10 KJV 1900
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Is a summary of what our life after salvation appears to be. It is what our life looks like.
Romans 10 11 is the logical progression of verse 10.
Romans 10:11 KJV 1900
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Paul is making the argument that salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone through many passages of Scripture. Please remember that these arguments are the text of the New testament.
He is saying that salvation has always been in Jesus Christ, it was never in the law.
You understand that the law did two things: first it reveals sins or righteousness in whomever it is applied too. And, it reveals that the wages of sin is death, which was the purpose of all the sacrifices. No one was ever saved by the deeds of the law. It has always been by faith In Jesus Christ, either in His coming work on the cross in the future, or His past work on the cross.
Paul is interrupting a number of passages for us here. Isaiah 28:16
Isaiah 28:16 KJV 1900
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, A tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: He that believeth shall not make haste.
Faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of salvation.
Jeremiah 17:17 KJV 1900
17 Be not a terror unto me: thou art my hope in the day of evil.
The terror is having no hope for the sin that i cannot do anything about or the sin that you cannot do anything apart from the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Blood and His righteousness.
Psalm 25:2–3 KJV 1900
2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, Let not mine enemies triumph over me. 3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: Let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.
Those who trust the LORD will not, are not put to shame.
Psalm 31:17 KJV 1900
17 Let me not be ashamed, O Lord; for I have called upon thee: Let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
Calling on God is acknowledging that you are helpless to help yourself, which is where we need to be when we call.
Paul gives us further interpretations for us in Galatians 3:8
Galatians 3:8 KJV 1900
8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
Salvation has always been by faith and not by the law. Notice it was the Scriptures that preached the gospel unto Abraham.
Jesus makes the argument this way:
Mark 12:24 KJV 1900
24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
John 5:39 KJV 1900
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Jesus the ultimate authority of Scripture clearly says the Scriptures that speak of Salvation are those that speak of Him. They all point us to Jesus.
Romans 10:11 KJV 1900
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Romans 10:12 KJV 1900
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
They must come by faith in Christ alone.
Abraham is the one who believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
What about Rahab? A Canaanite women who ran a brothel. She did not perish with those who believed not. Hebrews 11:31
Hebrews 11:31 KJV 1900
31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
James explains how Rahab fits right into the summary of Paul in verse 10.
Romans 10:10 KJV 1900
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
She believed in her heart and confession was made by her actions
James 2:25 KJV 1900
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
Romans 10:12 KJV 1900
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
There is no difference between the Jew and Greek …
Salvation comes all who call on the name of the Lord.
It does not come to a particular family, tribe, town, nation, ethic group, or any other division that we may recognize. There is no difference.
The called are all on the same level, a sinner that is saved by the grace of God.
You see, it is God who does the saving. We cannot bring any merit of our own.
God does supply 90%, 99% or 99.9999% and we bring the remainder needed for salvation.
It is all by grace nothing else.
Galatians 3:28 KJV 1900
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Romans 3:22 KJV 1900
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
Romans 3:29 KJV 1900
29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
He is rich to all that call upon him.
Romans 9:22–24 “22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: 23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, 24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?”
We get the riches of Christ and He got the depravity of our sin.
Romans 10:12 KJV 1900
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Romans 10:13 KJV 1900
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Have called on the name of the Lord with your heart and confessed Him?
