The Problem (ME/WE)
Image of light in the darkness
We think we see more than we do.
Walking in the dark feels familiar, but it is still darkness.
We claim to walk in the light while living with hidden darkness.
Christ’s Pattern of Love (vs. 1–2)
“Walk in love, as Christ loved us.”
• Christ’s sacrificial love is the example.
• His offering to God (Exodus 29 echo) shows the life we are called into.
What Darkness Looks Like (vs. 3–7)
Darkness = the old life we must leave behind
• Sexual immorality
• Greed and idolatry
• Foolish and filthy speech
• Claiming Christ while living unchanged
You Were Darkness, Now You Are Light (vs. 8–14)
Identity shift:
• You were darkness.
• Now you are light in the Lord.
• Light exposes, convicts, and awakens.
• “Wake up, sleeper… Christ will shine on you.”
Walking Wisely and Spirit-Filled (vs. 15–20)
The Spirit-filled life:
• Live wisely, not sleepwalking
• Understand the Lord’s will
• Be filled with the Spirit, not numbed by anything else
Marks of the Spirit:
• Encouraging worship
• Heartfelt praise
• Continual gratitude
• Mutual submission
The Call (YOU/WE)
You were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord—so live like it.
Walk in Christ’s light.
Expose the darkness.
Let your life shine where God has placed you.
Step out of the shadows, wake up to Christ, and live the kind of life that shines his light in every place you go.
