Dismantling Your Giant

Intro: Have you ever had a giant in your life before? Believe it or not we all have had a giant in our life. The giant all of us have face once in our lives is the giant of FEAR. This giant of fear has hurt us and it may still be hurting you til this day. We find ourselves fearful of the of our past. Fearful of the present. Fearful on the unknown. This fear has plagued the mindset of the church and believers and this has caused us to have doubt in our hearts. This doubt has caused us to not walk in the authority that We have through Christ Jesus. We doubt the power that God has. We don’t trust and believe anymore. We talk a good talk but we don’t believe what we talk about. We shouldn’t be living in fear or in doubt. It amazes me how we were in a midst of a government shutdown and we saw church folk began to worry and be afraid. I don’t know why because the government rest upon his shoulders, not only that but my Bible tells me the earth is the Lord and the fullness Thereof and they that dwell there in…… Child of God all we need to remember and understand is that God will take care of his own. He will protect and provide for his people. You ought to tap yourself on the chest and tell yourself he will provide for me. For God looks after his own. For I heard a pastor once say he will not risk his flawless track record. Last time I checked my God is still undefeated and he hasn’t lost a battle yet. So just tap yourself on the chest again and say we gone be alright. I know it looks rough right now but remember that you have authority through Christ Jesus and know that God will see you through.

Thesis: We see in our story today that we have a familiar character by the name of David. David was a shepherd boy who tended to the sheep. But one day David’s life to a shift in another direction.. The prophet Samuel goes down to Jesse house because he has instructions from God that the next King is coming from Jesse house and it’s one of his sons. Story goes on Jesse brings his sons out all 7 and Samuel tries to pour the oil on all 7 sons but the oil wouldn’t come out and flow. So Samuel tells Jesse you have to have another son because I know what the Lord told me. Jesse yes I have one more but he’s out back tending to the sheep. Samuel says go get him so Jesse sends people to go get him to come. They bring the other son back which is David and the Oil flows and David is anointed as king.

Now we are here and we see that something is happening we have this phillistine giant by the name of Goliath who is taunting the Israel army. The Army of God. Goliath was about 10ft tall and he is taunting this army so that they are afraid and really don’t know what to do. They are in a fear of the unknown of what they are going to do. The text says that they were terrified and deeply shaken. The army is trying to figure out what to do because fear has taken over.

However one day Jesse sends David to go give his brothers some food and to get a report on how things were going. David goes and he gets there and gives the food to his brothers they are chilling chopping it up and what not and then, Goliath comes out and begins to taunt the Israel army again…. David hears this and he see the army of God begin to run away. They begin to tell David about Goliath. David comes and he asked a question and he says who is this uncircumcised philistine. I believe he might have wanted to say who is this …… y’all know what that blank is…. He says who is this and who does he think he is coming to defile or to taunt the Army of the Lord.

Church the army of Israel was afraid and terrified. They were fearful. However church if we are going to dismantle our giant we can’t be taunted and fearful of it. Goliath knew he had power over the Israel army because when he would taunt them the text says the army would run away and be terrified. We got to recognize and learn what is it that has you fearful and what is taunting you. This is because In this season of your life you can’t not let your fears whether it be a person place or thing you can’t let it think it has power over you. This is a season that you will recognize that you have power over your situation. You are going to be able to sit back and know that he that has begun a good work in you shall perform it to the day of Jesus Christ. I just need someone to get excited because you realize now that you can’t be afraid or worried because you are a believer. For many might try to come against you but you got to recognize and understand that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. You must realize that what you are one of his own, and like I said before he is going to look out for his own. So walk up high knowing that God has got your back. There is No one that is Bigger than your God. You should have the ultimate confidence in God to know If God be for me than Who can be against me. Don’t let nothing taunt your faith.

We see David now sees and hears what is going on. After he finds out what is going on His brother gets upset asked him what are you doing here? He tries to belittle David by saying Ain’t you suppose to be watching those sheep, however David responds and Says to his brother “ Is there not a cause” Brothers and sisters if we are going to dismantle our Giant we must understand we can’t let nobody or no one discourage us. The Brother tried to belittle David by making him small, however that didn’t detour David. David understood there was a cause and an assignment to defeat this Philistine because he was coming against those who were in Convenant with God. Thats all I come to tell you this morning that there is a cause in all of our lives as believers we have been called to stand up for our God. No matter what man may try to say about you or do to you, you understand that there is a cause and that is defeat the giants in our life and you do that by standing on his word. For the grass wither and the flowers fade but the Word of the Lord will stand forever. Just look at somebody and tell them that there is a cause. That was the wrong person look at somebody else and tell them there is a cause. So in this season don’t be discourage but have the courage to stand up for your God.

David didn’t allow the chatter of his brother to change his posture. Many times we find ourselves changing because of what somebody else said. However we must learn to remain the same, Don’t change , Don’t switch up, Keep praising him, Keep serving him , Keep worshipping him, Because when you think of the goodness of Jesus and all he has done for you your soul should cry out there ought to be a sign that follows and shows how good God has been to you. They may try to talk about you but they don’t know What the Lord has done for you and you have a cause to stand up for your God.

David Goes back to Saul and they had already reported to Saul what had been going on. David goes and he has a conversation with Saul. He tells him that he will go and fight this Philistine but Saul tells him no for David was just a young man at the time. Saul tells him that Goliath has been fighting in wars since he was a youth. However David still persisted. David began to tell Saul his track record. David was a shepherd boy and he had to protect his sheep. He tells Saul about how the lion and bear tried to come take his sheep but he went after it saved the sheep and killed the lion and bear. David remembered and Understood that the same God that delivered me out of the claw of the lion and the bear will deliver me from this Philistine.

Church thats all I come to encourage you this morning is that sometimes you have to remind others that God has delivered and God will deliver. David is basically telling Saul, I ain’t scared. This is nothing for ME for God is with me. He is basically saying that he knows that the Lord will see him through. Church we have to have a confidence to know the Power that lies within us with God on our side. David is basically saying, if He did it before, he will do it again. If he helped me to deliver the sheep who were under his care, then certainly he will help me Deliver his people who are in covenant with him from the hand of this Philistine name Goliath. We got to get to a point like David and understand that we are in relationship with God and if he Did it for me the Last Time I know that he is able to do it again. Same God right now same God back then. So I am not worried and I can stand in confidence and face my Giants and dismantle them because I had a flashback and I remember how he brought me out the last situation. Is there anybody in this room that can give God praise Cause you understand how the Lord has brought you and how the Lord keeps delievering and rescuing you. For when you thought that the enemy Had the victory God stepped in right on time and flipped the scenery. I Don’t know about you but I get excited everytime it looks dark and gloomy in my life like I’m about to lose because I know that Sooner than Later its getting ready to turn in my favor and God is getting ready to flip the switch. It’s getting ready to work out in my benefit because we know that all things work together for them who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose. Its turning……

Finally Saul agrees to Let David Go and Fight. Before he goes to the battle Saul tries to give David his Armor to go fight Goliath but ultimately the armor was too big it was made for Saul not David and as David tried to test it out he told Saul that he couldn’t even walk in all off the armor. So David takes ooff the armor and gets 5 smooth stones and a sling shot and heads to meet this phillistine.

Church this showed me that David understood he didn’t need all that because he knew who was with him. Church we must recognize that God is with us we don’t need all of these man made things that we can’t even walk in but we got to learn that its the season to trust in the authority that God has giiven us. It’s the season to believe and trust in him wholeheartedly. If you are going to dismantle your Giant you have to be equipped and what you need to be equipped is easy one Word it’s faith. All you have to do is have faith and know that God will do it. I don’t know who needs this word today but you been trying to defeat your giant with other things and the only thing that is happening is you are weighing yourself down to where you can’t even walk with the stuff you have put on. But I came to encourage you this morning that its time to take those things off and put on faith. Because if you have the faith you will see Gods power Manifested in your Life.

After that David Goes To Meet Goliath and he gets to the battle and Goliath is there if i may paraphase and put it in my words, he is there talking his talk looking down at little david thinking it was a joke. David is standing there taking it all in and as he is there Goliath finishes his spill. Then David speaks up and says you have all of this stuff a sword a javelin and a spear. But I come to you in the Name of the Lord. David is basically saying you have all this stuff and I have heard what you are going to do to me but let me tell you who I come to you from. David tell his giant I have come in the name of the Lord. For there is power in the name of the Lord. David could’ve said he come in his name but he understood this was not about him but about God getting the glory. And this may be the issue today with why you keep facing your giant is because you are trying to do it in your name and not the name of the Lord.

David Goes on and tells Goliath what is about to happen.
