1) Short Bullet-Point Preaching Outline (Speaker Notes)

0. Intro – Who I Am / Why Worship Matters (≈3 min)

Name, role, Megan + kids, life is worship + chaos.
Brief story: PK, Deeper Life Camp call, years leading worship.
“I’ve seen God’s presence feel tangible… and I’ve also led while feeling numb.”
Aim of message: not just “worship set talk” – learning worship as a life.

1. Demystifying Worship + Big Idea (≈5–6 min)

Zach Neese snowy field story – man worships, senses God, lifted like a child → ruined for religion, wants the Father.
Many think worship =:
Music / band
Emotional moment
“Super spiritual people” thing
If worship is only 20 mins on Sunday, we miss most of what God invited us into.
Worship as soil (Neese idea):Everything healthy—evangelism, prayer, teaching, missions—grows out of worship.
Big idea line (pick one to emphasize):
“Worship isn’t a setlist; it’s a surrendered life.”
“When that truth gets into how we think and live, worship stops being a habit and becomes a relationship.”

2. From Motion to Meaning (Romans 12) (≈7 min)

Read Romans 12:1.
“In view of God’s mercy…” → response = whole-life offering.
Read Romans 12:2.
Conformed vs transformed.
Romans 12:9–21 snapshots of a worship life:
Love must be sincere.
Honor one another.
Bless those who persecute you.
Overcome evil with good.
This is worship lived out, not just “being a good person.”
Brief current story:
Tired, Christmas planning / Wild Academy; Holy Spirit: “Rehearsing a set or preparing an offering?”
Question:
“If someone muted the audio of your week, where would they see worship?”
Shift 1:
From motion to meaning – not just doing worship things, but becoming a worshiper in how you live.

3. From Performance to Presence (2 Samuel 6) (≈6–7 min)

Context: Ark returning, doing it God’s way this time.
David removes royal robe, wears linen ephod → first priest before king.
Dances with all his might → Michal despises him.
David: “It was before the LORD… I’ll become even more undignified.”
Worship = audience of One.
Seriousness: Michal’s barrenness & Judas-like contempt for poured-out worship.
Neese: priests = walking, breathing meeting places with God.
Reclaiming child-like expression:
Kids dance naturally; we learn self-consciousness.
“Why the lights / band?”
We’re not putting on a show; we’re setting the table:
Creating an excellent, distraction-reducing space for intimacy with Jesus.
Dad analogy:
Rather have child say “Dad, I love you” than play a perfect piece.
God wants hearts more than polished performance.
Shift 2:
From performance to presence – from “How do I look?” to “Lord, You have my heart.”

4. From Feeling to Faith (Psalm 42) (≈7 min)

Read Psalm 42:11 (mention the earlier verses of deep distress).
Name real pain:
Grief, betrayal, depression, anxiety, burnout, spiritual attack.
Deepest worship often forged here, not on spiritual highs.
Psalms as gift:
Some start in praise, end in pain.
Others start in pain, end in praise.
God invites our real emotions; we bring them to Him.
Feelings catching up to faith:
After long day, choosing to engage with family → feelings often follow.
Same with worship: love looks for opportunities, not minimums.
Quick recent story of choosing to worship while drained (not COVID era).
Light-relief line:
“If worship was only for people who felt spiritual, I’d be disqualified several Mondays a month.”
Shift 3:
From feeling to faith – choosing to worship anyway, letting truth anchor you until feelings catch up.

5. From Receiving to Releasing (Priests & Hebrew Praise) (≈5–6 min)

Transaction trap:
“If I sing/raise hands, maybe God will bless me.”
Read Psalm 96:7–8.
Ascribe; bring an offering → focus is what we give.
Audience vs priest culture:
Modern church tends to “watch worship.”
Scripture: you are priests; you minister to the King.
Brief Hebrew words overview (for later response):
Zamar – praise with instruments.
Tehillah – enthusiastic, public praise God inhabits.
Barak – kneeling, blessing, adoring.
Shabach – shouting/boasting in God, generational praise.
Shachah – bowing/submission, core word for worship.
Shift 4:
From receiving to releasing – less “What do I get out of worship?” and more “What can I bring to God?”

6. From Routine to Relationship (John 4) (≈5–6 min)

Samaritan woman → “Which mountain is correct?”
Read John 4:23–24.
True worshipers in Spirit and truth.
Neese’s angle:
Spirit → surrendered, Spirit-led life (living sacrifice).
Truth → coming through Jesus as the only way.
Our “worship wars”:
Hymns vs modern, organ vs guitar, this artist vs that one, lights vs none.
Pharisee warning:
Obsessing over routines and rules while missing relationship.
Deer stand / outdoors / Wild Academy:
“I do my prayin’ in a deer stand” joke.
Tree stand, hikes, Wild Academy → real places of worship in your life.
Worship not confined to church walls.
Shift 5:
From routine to relationship – from checking boxes to walking with a real God everywhere.

7. Point to Christ (≈2 min)

Jesus:
Perfect worshiper.
Final sacrifice.
Tore the veil; we have access.
Heb. 10: we enter confidently by His blood.
Worship isn’t climbing up; it’s responding to the God who came down.

8. Response / Practice & Resource (≈4–5 min)

One sermon won’t answer everything; we get a lifetime + eternity to learn.
As we sing:
Invite people to bring an offering, not just routine.
Practice some Hebrew expressions:
Sing (zamar), lift hands / enthusiastic praise (tehillah),
Kneel / bow (barak / shachah),
Declare loudly / brag on God (shabach).
Invite people to come forward, kneel, move if they want.
Mention How to Worship a King + QR for book & video series.
Short closing prayer:
Repent for going through motions.
Offer hearts, ask to learn Spirit-and-truth worship.
Declare His presence as the reward.
