The New Birth to Glorification

When God saved us He already had in view our Glorification

Romans 8:28 ESV

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:29 ESV

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Romans 8:30 ESV

And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

The process of sanctification isn’t even mentioned in the chain of salvation.

He Foreknew. 2 . He predestined 3. He called, 4. He Justified, 5. He glorified.

The Holy Spirit who is God, has come into our hearts with a divine purpose . That purpose is to seal us and prepare us for Glory

Ephesians 1:13–14 NKJV

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

2 Corinthians 1:22 ESV

and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

The exciting thing is, though we are not the author of our own sanctification, we have a role in it by our obedience.

Philippians 2:12–13 ESV

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

1. Predestined for His Glory

Romans 8:29

Romans 8:29 reveals God's ultimate plan for believers to be conformed to the image of His Son. This passage emphasizes predestination, not as a restrictive fate, but as a divine promise for transformation and sharing in Christ's glory.

We are to weak to perform this in our own strength. We need the Holy Spirit

Romans 8:26–27 ESV

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

2. Transformed by His inner Presence

2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

As we worship Jesus and walk with Him we are being transformed.

3. Having the assurance in making our calling and election certain.

2 Peter 1:10 ESV

Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.

2 Peter 1:5–9 ESV

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

4. The new nature overcomes the old

Ephesians 4:22–24 ESV

to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Sanctification is that condition in which the sin principle is dealt with.David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (Welsh Preacher and Writer)

But it is also the condition in which we are being transformed into the image of Christ
