They left that place and passed through Galilee.
Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were,
because he was teaching his disciples.
There is a time for ministry and a time for training
notice this comes after a failure
discipleship is a core element of Christianity
He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.”
Jesus’ teaching is centered on the Gospel
He does not explain why this must happen
They have yet to embrace servanthood
The Kingdom is built on sacrifice and service
But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
He has stated plainly twice about His death and ressurection
They are willing to correct Jesus, but not seek correction themselves
The Disciples had too low a view of Christ and too high a view of themselves
They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?”
But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.
Jesus’ teaching on the road = the messiah will die
The Disciples conversation on the road = I am the greatest
This obvious gap in understanding must be resolved
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
Anyone - subject is individual/must be applied to yourself
all - object is everyone else
Your status in the Kingdom is based on your willingness to serve everyone on earth
He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them,
“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
The child is an example of:
weakness
meekness
poor
The child cannot provide anything except gratitude
When we serve the smallest in society, we welcome God
Serving everyone:
Is proper attitude of the Christian
Individually focused
universally included
