Baptism, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, or the Baptism with the Holy Spirit
INTRODUCTION:
Be not dogmatic. There is a truth to these matters, but we should tread carefully, with reverence and a holy fear. For there are many saints of great magnitude on either side of some of these issues, and we ought not to cause an offense or make a brother to stumble in some way.
We also ought not be too lighthearted in these matters, because it is God’s truth and we must seek out the Scriptures and be convinced of the truth God is desiring for us to know. And more than that, it is not a matter of how easily we can come to a conclusion on these matters, but as MLJ put’s it, “the vital question is: What do these terms represent and what do we know about them experientially?”
Our point in pursuing these doctrines is not merely for head knowledge or intellectual prowess, but that we would all walk away with “a deep and a real experience of the power of salvation” that comes from a right and proper understanding of these doctrines we have.
To that end, we will begin this morning with some places we find the terms (baptism - generally), the way they were used and you used them.
