Know who you are

If you don’t know who you are, you’ll spend your whole life trying to become someone you’re not. The world will label you by your mistakes, your followers, or your performance—but Jesus calls you His. Your identity in Christ is the foundation that everything else is built on. Before I leave this ministry, I want you to know that who you are is not defined by your past, your popularity, or your potential—it’s defined by your position as a son or daughter of God.

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered who you really are?

Our world is obsessed with identity. Everyone is trying to figure out who they are, but most of what they discover fades when the season changes. If you do not know who you are in Christ, you will chase identity after identity and still feel empty.

Before I go, if I could leave you with one truth to hold onto for the rest of your life, it is this. Know who you are.

You Are God’s Masterpiece Not a Mistake

Ephesians 2:10 “10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

You are not an accident. You are handcrafted by God.

The Greek word for masterpiece is poiema. It is where we get the word poem. You are God’s story in motion.

Tell them: “Look at your neighbor and say, You are a masterpiece, not a mistake.”

The world will try to make you feel like you have to earn value. God gave you value before you took your first breath.

You are not defined by your likes. You are defined by His love.

You Are Set Apart for a Purpose

1 Peter 2:9 “9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

You are not random. You are royal.

God did not save you just to sit. He saved you to serve.

Tell them: “You have already been picked for the best team, so stop trying out for the world’s approval.”

Your purpose becomes clear once your identity is secure.

The enemy cannot steal your purpose, but he will try to make you forget your position.

You Are Loved Even When You Do Not Feel Like It

Romans 8:15–17 “15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

God does not love you based on performance. He loves you based on adoption.

You may mess up, but God does not change His mind about you.

Tell them: “You can run away from God, but you cannot outrun His love.”

Identity in Christ means you can live confident, knowing you belong.

Illustration: Reference one of your kids calling you “Dad” and how it hits differently every time. Tie it to God’s heart toward His children.

Before you worry about the next season, the next leader, or the next chapter of your life, settle this truth tonight. You are a masterpiece. You are chosen. You are loved. Your identity is secure in Jesus.

Closing Challenge

Some of you have spent years trying to earn an identity. Trying to make people like you. Trying to fit in. Trying to outrun your past. Tonight, God is inviting you to rest in who He says you are.

If you have never made that decision, this is the moment. If you have forgotten who you are, tonight is your reminder. Come back to the Father who never stopped calling your name.
