Luke 2:25–35 “And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, “Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation, Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, A Light of revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.” And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed— and a sword will pierce even your own soul—to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

INTRODUCTION

Have you ever waiting for something that was promised to you? When someone promises you something and you’re waiting for it everyday you live with expectation that today is the day.
When I was 12 years old my parent promised us that we would go to Disneyland. They didn’t say when we would go, only that we would go. My sister and I would wait every day for the time we would pack up into the car and drive to Disneyland.
There were days that I grew impatient. There were days I would ask, “when are we going?” My mom would say, “soon”.
Finally the day came that we went and were able the rides, and shows. What I didn’t know was that while we were waiting for the day, my parents were working to make it happen.
I imagine that there are some of you that are waiting on God for something. I want to remind you to be patient while God is working.
Mary had given birth to Jesus and was in her time of purification. They went to the temple to offer an offering to God. It was custom for the parents to present their firstborn for dedication.
They encounter an OLD man, by the name of Simeon.
Not much is mentioned in the bible about Simeon. Luke doesn’t call him a priest, or rabbi or even a prophet. He simply says,
He is a man in Jerusalem.
He was Righteous and Devout
He was waiting for the consolation of Israel. (Waiting for the appearance of the Messiah).
And that the Holy Spirit was upon him.

I. Delay is not denial — it’s preparation.

Simeon wasn’t forgotten; he was being shaped for fulfillment.

II. The Holy Spirit guides the heart that chooses to wait well.

Simeon stayed sensitive, expectant, and obedient.

III. Christmas is proof that God keeps every promise—no matter how long it takes.

If He said it, He will perform it.
