Candle Lighting Script
Reader 1:
Today we light the Shepherd’s Candle, the Candle of Joy. Its pink color reminds us that God brings joy even before the answer comes.
Reader 2 (Scripture):
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”(Luke 1:46–47 CSB)
Reader 1:
Mary praised God before she saw the miracle. That is Advent joy.
(Light the Hope, Peace, and Joy Candles)
All:
Lord, fill our waiting with joy. Amen.
Illustration / Story — “The Nursery Before the Baby”
Expectant parents often decorate the nursery long before the baby arrives—painting walls, setting up cribs, buying tiny clothes. They prepare with joy even though they haven’t met the child yet.
Joy anticipates what God has promised.
Devotional Reflection
Joy is not the same as happiness. Happiness depends on circumstances.
Joy depends on God’s faithfulness.
Mary rejoiced because she trusted the One who spoke.
Joy is the song we sing while we wait.
