Primary Text: John 1:1–14; Isaiah 60:1

BIG IDEA:

Jesus is the Light who shines into darkness — and the darkness cannot overcome Him.

INTRO / HOOK:

Light makes everything clear. Light brings warmth, comfort, and direction. Light reveals what darkness tries to hide. Christmas begins with light breaking into the night.

POINT 1 — The Darkness We Face (Why Light Was Needed)

John 1:5
Darkness is spiritual, moral, relational.
The world isn’t simply broken — it’s darkened by sin.
Darkness cannot fix itself.
Illustration: Power outage at night — until light appears, you can’t move confidently.
Application: Jesus didn’t come to improve darkness — He came to defeat it.

POINT 2 — The Light God Sent (Who Christ Is)

John 1:1–4, 9
Jesus is not a light; He is the Light.
He reveals God, exposes sin, and rescues souls.
Light doesn’t negotiate with darkness — it conquers it.
Subpoints: A. He is the Eternal Word B. He is the True Light C. He is the Life-Giver
Application: If you want clarity, direction, and purpose — walk in His light.

POINT 3 — The Life We Receive (What Light Does in Us)

John 1:12–14
When we receive Christ, we receive life.
Light transforms everything it touches.
Those who walk in the light reflect the light.
Illustration: Candles in a dark room — one flame becomes many as the light spreads.
Application: Your family, your workplace, your community — they need the light you carry.

LORD'S SUPPER TRANSITION:

“Tonight we remember that the Light of the World entered darkness… And through His broken body and shed blood, the darkness was defeated.”

INVITATION:

“Light has come into the world — walk in that light today. Step out of the shadows and into Christ.”
