v.17:
“if” you are going to profess God, this should be your attitude, because God judges the works of the believer.
This has nothing to do with having to earn salvation. On the contrary, it is salvation that produces good works.

Salvation produces good works, not the other way around.

Ephesians 2:8-10
Ephesians 2:8–10 NKJV
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Titus 2:7
Titus 2:7 NKJV
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,

There are some who claim to profess Christ, but it is not evident in their works.

Titus 1:16
Titus 1:16 NKJV
They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

When we trusted Christ, God forgave our sins and declared us righteous. Our sins have already been judged at the cross.

Romans 5:1
Romans 5:1 NKJV
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Colossians 2:13
Colossians 2:13 NKJV
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,
1 Peter 2:24
1 Peter 2:24 NKJV
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.

Each of us will give an account of our works, and each will receive the appropriate reward.

Romans 14:10–12
Romans 14:10–12 NKJV
But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
2 Corinthians 5:10
2 Corinthians 5:10 NKJV
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
This is a “family judgment,” like a Father dealing with His beloved children.
The Greek word translated judge carries the meaning “to judge in order to find something good.”
God will search into the motives for our ministry; He will examine our hearts.
He assures us that His purpose is to glorify Himself in our lives and ministries, “and then shall every man have praise of God” (1 Cor. 4:5). What an encouragement!
God will give us many gifts and privileges as we grow in the Christian life, but disobedience and sin is not one of those privileges.
Years of obedience cannot purchase an hour of disobedience. If one of His children disobeys, God must chasten.
But when His child obeys and serves Him in love, He notes that and prepares the proper reward.
Time of your stay here”: Peter reminds us that we are only sojourners here on earth. Our time here is temporary, our true citizenship is in heaven.

Our time here is temporary, our true citizenship is in heaven.

Philippians 3:20
Philippians 3:20 NKJV
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Peter tells us that out time here should be spent in fear of God.
Why should we fear?
Israel rejected Christ and failed to perform their task. Therefore, the job of spreading the Gospel was given to the gentiles (the church).
If you don’t do what you have been called to do, God will move you out of the way, and make room for someone who will.
None of us are indispensable.
This doesn't mean that you can lose your salvation, the Bible is very clear on that.
However, you can lose your fellowship with God.
When that happens to a true Christian, their life will become increasingly miserable until things are set right.
Simply put, fear is and always has been a motivator for obedience.
God can and will judge us, and we should take that seriously.

Because of God’s ability to judge, we need to live in fear of Him.

Matthew 10:28
Matthew 10:28 NKJV
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
There seems to be little to no fear of God today.
We tend to display an amazing irreverence towards God, but He is The Holy God, the Creator and judge of the universe.
An old testament Jew so feared God, that he would not even pronounce His holy name. Times certainly have changed.
Now it’s common to profane His name… no fear.
A healthy fear of God does not immobilize us, it causes us to act.
A healthy fear of God breeds love, respect, and awe if God. It promotes worship, reverence and honor.
A healthy fear of God deepens and strengthens our relationship with Him.
A healthy fear of God means we don't have to fear the world.
We don’t need to fear the world because we a secure in Christ.
No one or nothing can separate us from His love. We should take great comfort in that promise.
v.18-19:
Corruptible” or “perishable” Christ is perfect, eternal, sinless, and incorruptible. He is our salvation.
It is He who redeemed us.
Peter reminds them that they were not saved by obedience to the law, or any other traditions that are handed down by men.
The same applies today:
Going to church doesn’t save you.
Being baptized doesn’t save you.
Participating in communion doesn’t save you.
No tradition or ritual can save you.
If your goal in these things is salvation, they are “aimless”
We are saved by the “precious blood of Christ”. It is precious because it represents the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.
It is precious because it was shed due to our sin
It is precious because it is a gift of God’s amazing grace.
v.20-21:
Christ is eternal, and His role has always been clear.
He became flesh for our sakes, so that through Him we might believe in God.
His resurrection and His Glory are so that our faith and hope would be placed in the proper place, with God, not in some vain pursuit that would lead us to hell.
v.22:
Because of God’s love and sacrifice for us, we are to love each other.
This is how God works in our lives, we serve Him by serving others.
v.23-25:
Again Peter affirms that Christ and His word are eternal, and it is this same word that reveals Christ to men.
What are you doing with His Word?
