III. Passage Reading
III. Passage Reading
Psalm 95 (ESV)
1 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
3 For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.
5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
10 For forty years I loathed that generation and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways.”
11 Therefore I swore in my wrath, “They shall not enter my rest.”

V. Thought 2 — The Basis for Praise (v3–5)
Psalm 95:3 (ESV)
3 For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

Reasons for Greatness:
Reasons for Greatness:
Psalm 95:4–5 (ESV)
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.
5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
ALL the EARTH = HIS POSSESSION…
------------------------
Unexplored Depths:
Unexplored Depths:
Exhort: HUMANKIND HASN’T EXHAUSTED EXPLORING EARTH…
75% OCEAN FLOOR = UNKNOWN…
99% = UNOBSERVED by HUMANS…
CONSIDER CAVERNS—DEPTHS of EARTH
ENDLESS CAVERNS— 7 MILES DEEP
CAVE SYSTEMS HUNDREDS of MILES DEEP
SCIENTISTS ESTIMATE LESS THAN 1% EXPLORED, MAPPED, & FULLY KNOWN.
UNEXPLORED DEPTHS = in GOD’S HANDS! HE MADE THEM!!
------------------------
LIKEWISE the MOUNTAIN TOPS
MERISM—EVERYTHING in BETWEEN
HIGHEST HEIGHTS & LOWEST LOWS & EVERYTHING in BETWEEN = HIS RIGHTFUL POSSESSION...
HE MADE the SEA & LAND—IT’S ALL HIS!
Conclusion: HE is GREAT—LOOK @ HIS POWER & CREATIVE GENIUS!
************
Transition: GOD = SO GREAT—WE’LL SEE a 2ND CALL to PRAISE...

WORSHIP MOVES from CELEBRATORY SINGING to HUMBLE BOWING—ACKNOWLEDGING GOD’S GREATNESS…
REVERENCE—HOW COULD I BE PROUD & HAUGHTY in HIS SIGHT?!
------------------------
(v6b) Exhort: HE is MY MAKER…
NOT JUST the SEA
HE MADE ME.
HE RIGHTFULLY OWNS ALL CREATION — & HE RIGHTFULLY RULES MY LIFE!

VIII. Thought 5 — A Prophetic Warning (v7b–11)
VIII. Thought 5 — A Prophetic Warning (v7b–11)
Psalm 95:7–11 (ESV)
7 Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
10 For forty years I loathed that generation and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways.”
11 Therefore I swore in my wrath, “They shall not enter my rest.”
IF WE WILL HEAR HIS VOICE—WE OUGHT to RESPOND W/ OBEDIENCE
Background: THE WILDERNESS GENERATION for WHOM NOTHING WAS GOOD ENOUGH...
QUICK to DOUBT
SLOW to TRUST
FORGETFUL to PRAISE…
Conclusion: THEY MISSED the PROMISE!!
LET US NOT FOLLOW in THEIR EXAMPLE…
Passage Idea: WE SHOULD WORSHIP GOD for HIS GREATNESS & GOODNESS…
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
X. Application
X. Application
REMEMBER: HE’S OUR CREATOR & REDEEMER
WE OUGHT to WORSHIP HIM GLADLY:

WORSHIP in THANKSGIVING for HIS GRACIOUS ACTS
WORSHIP in OBEDIENCE to HIS VOICE
& TRUST of HIS WAYS…
------------------------------------------------
Conclusion: THESE ARE THINGS WE CAN DO—NO MATTER the SEASON—
