Children’s Sermon: The Magi and the Special Star
Main Point: God calls us to follow His light, just like the wise men followed the star, staying dedicated and trusting—even when the path isn’t easy.
Object Lesson
Object: A flashlight or shiny star ornament
Begin by showing the children the flashlight or star.
“Have you ever taken a walk in the dark? What helps you find your way?”
(Allow for answers. Turn on the flashlight or hold up the star.)
“This is like the star the wise men saw. It shone in the sky and guided them on their long journey.”
The Magi’s Journey
“Long ago, wise men—called magi—saw a special star in the night sky. They believed the star was a sign from God and decided to follow it to find someone very important: Jesus.”
“It wasn’t just a short walk! It took days, maybe even months. Sometimes, the road wasn’t easy. But the magi kept watching the star and trusted God to show them the way. Even when they got tired or weren’t sure what was ahead, they stayed dedicated to their path, because they knew God was leading them.”
Connection to Our Lives
“Sometimes, it’s hard to do what is right or follow God’s way—especially if friends choose another path or if we’re not sure where that path will lead. But just like the magi watched the star and trusted God, we can trust God to guide us, too.”
“When you see a star, remember: God wants us to follow His light—dedicated and trusting—because at the end of His path, there’s joy, just like the magi found Jesus.”
Prayer
“Let’s pray:
Dear God, thank You for being our light and showing us the way. Help us to trust You and stay dedicated, even when it’s hard. Thank You for loving us and always guiding us. Amen.”
Optional Activity:
Pass the flashlight or star ornament so each child can hold it, saying, “God will be my guide!”
