The Attitudes of Kingdom People

The Beatitudes describe a people who enter the kingdom of heaven. It is the character of those who follow their king!

The first four describe the necessary heart condition for salvation.

Poor in Spirit - not self-righteous, Humble. Recognizing ones utter need before a holy God.

Mourn - not self justifying. Repentance and grief over personal sin.

Meek - not self-willed. Submission to the will of God.

Hunger and Thirst

Luke 18:9–14 “And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. “The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ‘I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’ “I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.””

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus; what can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh! Precious in the flow, that makes me white as snow; no other fount I know; nothing but the blood of Jesus!

The last four describe the changed life of the saved.

Merciful - when you have received mercy you show mercy to others.

Pure in heart - without hypocrisy, clean.

When you know the depths of your own sin and see the pure redemption that is in Christ then you are honest about Jesus being your only answer.

Peacemakers - who seek to bring peace into conflict. Reconcile others to Christ.

Persecution - some react to the message. Rejoice in your future reward!
