After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
Don’t give up — the water is about to move.
There are moments in life when it feels like we have been waiting far too long for things to change. We’ve prayed, we’ve fasted, we’ve hoped, and yet it seems like nothing is shifting. The doors stay closed, the healing hasn’t come, and the promise still feels far away. But I came to remind you today — don’t give up, because the water is about to move.
In John 5:1–9, we meet a man who had been waiting at the pool of Bethesda for thirty-eight years. Thirty-eight years of watching others get healed. Thirty-eight years of hoping this would be the day. Thirty-eight years of disappointment, yet still showing up. The Bible says he was lying near the water — so close, yet still not walking in his miracle.
But when Jesus came by, everything changed.
You see, there were moments when an angel would come down and stir the water, and whoever stepped in first was healed. The man was always close, but never quick enough. Always near, but never next. Always waiting, but never walking. And yet, when Jesus stepped on the scene, He didn’t wait for the angel, the stirring, or the system — He was the movement.
Jesus looked at that man and said, “Do you want to be made whole?” It was not a question of where you are, its not a question of how long youve been there, it was a question of expectation.
there are times when God allows us to sit by the water long enough to test whether we still believe it can move.
Because faith is not proven when the miracle happens — faith is proven when you wait for it and refuse to give up.
This man had been in the same condition for so long that hopelessness had become familiar. But Jesus came to break the cycle of waiting and usher in a new season of walking. He said, “Rise, take up your bed, and walk.”
And in that instant — not after the water moved, not after someone helped him, not after a sign — but in that instant, at the sound of the Word, he was made whole.
The message is simple but powerful: Don’t give up — the water is about to move.
Even when you feel forgotten, even when others seem to receive what you’re still waiting for, even when life feels stagnant — hold on, because your moment is closer than you think.
You might be tired of waiting, but God is not tired of working.
You might be weary in faith, but God is not weary in power.
The same Jesus who showed up at Bethesda is still walking through waiting places today — and He has not forgotten you.
When the water moves, you won’t have to compete for it — the move will find you.
When the water moves, you won’t need a hand to push you — grace will pull you.
When the water moves, what was stagnant will start to flow again.
This story reminds us that God doesn’t need a system — He is the Source.
He doesn’t need a formula — He is the Fountain.
He doesn’t need a pattern — He is the Power.
You may have been waiting a long time, but when Jesus steps in, time has to submit to His authority.
Your “thirty-eight years” of waiting can end in one word from the Master.
So, don’t give up now. Don’t let weariness win. Don’t stop showing up. Don’t stop expecting.
Because every moment you stay in position, you stay within reach of His miracle.
The man at Bethesda stayed close to the water — and even though he didn’t know it, he was closer to breakthrough than ever before.
And so are you.
The water is about to move in your house.
The water is about to move in your family.
The water is about to move in your mind.
The water is about to move in your ministry.
The water is about to move in your finances.
The water is about to move in your health.
The water is about to move in your purpose.
God is stirring something you can’t see yet — but you’ll soon feel it.
And when it moves, everything that’s been paralyzed will rise. Every dry place will be refreshed. Every dead dream will live again.
This is not the time to give up — this is the time to get ready.
Don’t give up because you haven’t seen results — keep standing because God’s Word never returns void.
Don’t give up because it’s been a long time — keep believing because delay is not denial.
Don’t give up because you’re tired — rest in God’s promise: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.”
Beloved, your water is about to move.
And when it does, no devil, no past, no fear, and no delay can stop the healing, the restoration, and the victory that God has prepared for you.
So lift your head, strengthen your faith, and keep your eyes on Jesus — the Living Water — because the next move is divine, and it’s already in motion.
Don’t give up — the water is about to move.
1. The Weight of Long Waiting
1. The Weight of Long Waiting
Family, long waiting wears on the soul.
The man at Bethesda wasn’t just sick — he was tired. Tired of trying. Tired of hoping. Tired of watching other people get what he’d been praying for. Thirty-eight years is a long time to wait for anything. Some of you may not have been waiting that long in years, but in emotion, you feel like you’ve been waiting your whole life.
Waiting for the healing.
Waiting for the breakthrough.
Waiting for the right door.
Waiting for the restoration.
Waiting for life to finally “shift.”
And after a while, waiting doesn’t just test your patience — it tests your identity. You stop asking, “Will God do it?” and you start secretly wondering, “Will God do it… for me?”
That’s when the temptation to give up comes the strongest.
But here’s the mystery of God: often, the urge to give up is a sign that you’re closest to the move.
The enemy doesn’t fight you this hard when nothing is about to happen. He fights hardest when the water is about to move.
2. What “The Water Is About to Move” Really Means
2. What “The Water Is About to Move” Really Means
When we say, “The water is about to move,” we’re not just being poetic. We’re declaring something spiritual:
God is about to shift an atmosphere you’ve been stuck in.
The pool of Bethesda represented a place where things could change, but often didn’t — at least not for that man. For years, the place held promise, but not fulfillment.
When we say, “The water is about to move,” we’re saying:
What used to be static is about to become supernatural.
God is about to touch what has been untouched for a long time.
This man’s condition had become “normal” to everyone around him. No one expected change anymore. But when Jesus came, Heaven interrupted what earth had accepted.
“The water is about to move” means:
God is about to put His hand on the very area everyone has given up on.
The system is about to be overridden by the Savior.
The man’s only framework for a miracle was:
Wait for the angel
Watch the water
Be the fastest one in
That’s performance. That’s competition. That’s scarcity.
But Jesus bypassed the system and became the source.
“The water is about to move” means:
God is not limited to the old way, the normal way, the expected way. He Himself is about to step in.
3. Why You Can’t Give Up Right Before the Move
3. Why You Can’t Give Up Right Before the Move
It is dangerous to give up in a waiting season, because:
You don’t know how close you are.
The man at Bethesda had no clue that Day 13,870 (approx.) was the day Jesus would walk by.
If he had stopped coming… stopped lying near the pool… stopped positioning himself… he would have missed the One who came directly to him.
When you give up:
You still love God, but you stop expecting.
You still pray, but you don’t really believe it’ll be this time.
You still show up, but your heart has quietly shut down.
That’s exactly what the enemy wants — not just for you to leave church, but for you to stay in church with no expectation.
But expectation is the womb of manifestation.
When you give up on expecting, you step out of alignment with what God is trying to birth.
So God sends a word like this:
“Don’t give up, because the water is about to move”
as a spiritual CPR — to revive faith that’s flatlining, to breathe hope back into a tired heart.
4. What to Do While You’re Waiting for the Water to Move
4. What to Do While You’re Waiting for the Water to Move
“Don’t give up” doesn’t mean “sit and suffer.”
It means: stay in position — but with intentional faith.
Here are some things to shepherd your people into:
Keep showing up in the place where miracles happen.
The man stayed by the pool. You stay in the presence of God. Stay in prayer. Stay in worship. Stay in the Word. Stay connected to the saints.
Breakthrough rarely meets us in isolation; it often meets us in position.
Keep your heart from becoming bitter while you wait.
He watched others get healed ahead of him. People will watch others get promoted, married, healed, elevated, restored before them.
The temptation:
“God, what about me?”
If bitterness settles in, the move comes and you can’t even rejoice when it finally touches you.
The instruction:
Celebrate others’ movement — it’s a sign the water can move. If it moved for them, it can still move for you.
Keep listening for Jesus, not just looking for the ‘angel.’
The man was watching the water, but Jesus was talking to him.
Sometimes we’re so fixated on one way we think God has to move that we miss the way He’s actually moving.
Encourage them:
“Don’t just watch the pool. Listen for the voice. God might bypass the method you expected and speak directly to you.”
Prepare to respond quickly when the word comes.
When Jesus said, “Rise, take up your bed, and walk,” the man didn’t argue long; he responded.
Part of not giving up is staying ready to move when God says move, even if you’ve been lying there for years.
5. The Prophetic Edge: The Water Is About to Move In You
5. The Prophetic Edge: The Water Is About to Move In You
Here’s an even deeper layer:
Before the water moves around you, God often starts moving the water in you.
He stirs your hunger.
He stirs your dissatisfaction with “just surviving.”
He stirs your desire for more.
He stirs old dreams that you thought were dead.
That internal stirring is often the first sign the water is about to move externally.
So you can say to them:
“If you’ve been feeling unsettled in your spirit, if you’ve been feeling a holy restlessness, if you feel like you cannot stay where you’ve been mentally and spiritually — that’s a sign. The water is moving in you first, so that when the water moves for you, you’ll be ready.”
6. Turning It into a Pastoral Declaration
6. Turning It into a Pastoral Declaration
You could end a section of your sermon or letter like this:
So, church, I speak to every tired heart, every weary soul, every discouraged believer:
Don’t give up — the water is about to move.
Don’t give up — Jesus is closer than you think.
Don’t give up — the season you’ve waited for is nearer than it looks.
Don’t give up — this is not the end of your story.
Don’t give up — what has been stuck is about to be stirred.
Don’t give up — what has been paralyzed is about to rise.
Don’t give up — the same Jesus who walked into Bethesda is walking into your situation even now.
You might feel like you’ve been waiting 38 years in your spirit, but one encounter with Jesus can do what decades could not.
Hold on to your faith. Stay by the water. Keep your expectation alive.
The water is about to move — and when it moves, your life will not look the same.

Thirty-eight years — that’s a lifetime of delay.
Delay is not denial.

Jesus saw the man lying there and knew how long he’d been in that case.
Others saw a problem; Jesus saw potential.
COGIC Punchline: “You are not defined by how long you’ve been down — you’re defined by who’s about to lift you up!”
Insight: God never asks “How long?”; He asks “Do you still believe?”

The man said, “I have no man to put me into the pool.”
Jesus never asked about the man — He asked about his will.
COGIC Punchline: “You don’t need a man when you’ve got the Master!”
Insight: Some breakthroughs don’t come by help — they come by obedience.

Jesus said, “Rise, take up your bed, and walk.”
Healing didn’t happen when the water moved — it happened when the man moved.

The man was one step away from change for years.
He didn’t know the next conversation would be his deliverance.

🔥 PROPHETIC PUSH — “It’s About to Move!”
🔥 PROPHETIC PUSH — “It’s About to Move!”
(Organ swells, preacher leans forward) 🎹🔥
God told me to tell somebody —
The water is about to move!
You’ve cried, you’ve waited, you’ve watched others get blessed — but don’t leave the pool now.
You’re next in line.
Heaven is stirring the waters again!
Lift your hands and declare:
“I’m still waiting with expectation!”
“I’m still believing even when it’s been years!”
“I’m still standing by the pool until He calls my name!”
The devil wants you to walk away before your season shifts —
but God says, “Stay right there — I’m coming to your spot.”
Tell your neighbor:
“Neighbor, the wait is over — your water’s moving!”
🎹 COGIC-STYLE CLOSING — “Stand Up, Pick It Up, Walk It Out”
🎹 COGIC-STYLE CLOSING — “Stand Up, Pick It Up, Walk It Out”
(Organ softens; preacher slows to a close) 🎹
The man didn’t crawl out — he walked out.
He carried the same bed that once carried him.
That’s what happens when God steps in —
what used to hold you now becomes your testimony.
So today, if you’ve been waiting…
Don’t quit. Don’t doubt. Don’t move out of position.
Because when Jesus shows up, your waiting turns into walking,
your paralysis turns into purpose,
and your pain turns into proof.
Say this with me:
“Lord, I’m waiting with faith.”
“I’m staying by the pool until You move.”
“And when You speak, I’ll rise.”
Because I believe — my water is about to move! 💧🔥
