Isaiah 2:1–5 NASB95
1 The word which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the house of the Lord Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it. 3 And many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war. 5 Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.
Advent. (Lat. adventus, sc. Redemptoris), signifies the coming of our Saviour. this term refers to the coming of Jesus Christ to earth to provide salvation by his life, death, resurrection and ascension. Christians now anticipate a second advent when Christ will return to earth in bodily form to receive the church and to judge the nations.
We Will see a glimpse of this here
Isaiah 2:1–2 NASB95
1 The word which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the house of the Lord Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it.
This is also found in: (Eze 38:16; Hos 3:5; Mic 4:1)
We are being given a Future Hope.
The mountain of the LORD, is a symbol or image of the coming kingdom of God
This is the purified and restored Zion Which we as Christians are apart of.
Isaiah summons his contemporaries to live now in the light of that glorious prospect, as should we.
Later on Isaiah will express the vastness of this promise of a future Hope in chapter 45
Isaiah 45:23–24 NASB95
23 “I have sworn by Myself, The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness And will not turn back, That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance. 24 “They will say of Me, ‘Only in the Lord are righteousness and strength.’ Men will come to Him, And all who were angry at Him will be put to shame.
Paul quotas this in Romans 14:11 as he says every knee will bow and confess the name of Jesus.
Even the ones that denie Him today will one day bow before him.
Isaiah 2:3 NASB95
3 And many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
Fire Bible (Chapter 2) The greatest desire of those who have a true relationship with God should be to know and to obey God’s will—his laws, desires and purposes—as citizens of His kingdom.
Fire Bible (Chapter 2) It is important that we who believe tell others the actual truths found in God’s Word. This means our message must be based on the God-inspired Scriptures—and our lives reflect this.
Isaiah 2:4 NASB95
4 And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war.
Some translations say “mediate instead of judge”
This level of peace will only become a reality when both the nations and their people are willing to submit to the word that goes forth from Zion where the one true God has revealed himself.
Peace on any other terms is a cruel delusion
We need to cling to this as we seek to be faithful to God’s word in the face of a world of religious pluralism.
The Message of Isaiah: On Eagles’ Wings (The Mountain of the Lord (2:1–5)) Isaiah was not blind to present realities. He spoke out against injustice, faithless politics and hypocritical religion with a passion that few could match today. But it was this vision of the future which inspired him. Religion for him was never an escape from reality, but the source from which he drew the strength he needed to face it squarely. It is how we must live too.
Isaiah 2:5 NASB95
5 Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.
Where there is light there is Hope.
Today we lit the candle of Hope and it should remind us to walk in the light of Jesus as he is our Hope
