Luke 1:26-38

Have you ever tried flying? Jump off a cliff and fly like a bird?
It is impossible.
Have you ever tried to outrun a cheetah or a sports car?
It is impossible.
Have you ever tried to staple water onto a brink wall?
Impossible...
But God can do the impossible.
For God… there is nothing that is impossible...
Nothing is Impossible with God...
Impossible: Not able to occur, to exist, or be done… Cannot be fulfilled or attained… Cannot happen...
Verse 26 - Gabriel… the angel that appeared to Daniel (Daniel 8:16 and 9:21), almost 600 years before Jesus is born… is now speaking and sharing news of the same Messiah he spoke of with Daniel… speaking in a language that they can understand...
This is impossible...
And… an angel of God was sent by God to a small little place, and town, to a person no one knows and has never heard of… and she gets to have this baby… God Incarnate...
Impossible...
Verse 27- Mary a virgin is being told that she will have a baby...
Can we all say… for the sake of science… “Impossible...”
Larry King famously said that if he could interview anyone from history, it would be Jesus Christ, and the single question would be, “Were you indeed virgin born?”
Larry King did not believe it was possible. Martin Luther King Jr. believed it was symbolic… not literal.
Many people have always struggled with this story and this person… Because this is impossible...
Verse 31-32 - This child shall shall have the name “Jesus.” This means “the God Who saves, or God saves.” He will be called the Son of the Most High and the Lord God will give Jesus the throne of His Father David… and His Kingdom will have no end...
This is impossible...
It has been so long since these prophesies have been spoken… It has been so long waiting...
This is impossible...
Now I want us to compare and contrast Mary and Zacharias…
Both received impossible news...
Verse 34 - Mary had questions… Mary did not understand… Mary is a real person with questions.
Mary’s questions did not have the unbelief attached to them… like Zacharias had with his questions...
Luke 1:18-20 - Zacharias said, “How will I know this for certain...?” And the angel made him silent until John was born… Why? Because he did not believe the angels words… that came from God.
Zacharias doubted… maybe he wanted a sign… God saw his unbelieving heart.
Mary genuinely asked, “how this could be” since she did not do what women did to have babies...
She understood where babies came from… she understood the way things naturally work...
She is not used to the supernatural...
Listen:
It is ok for us to have questions…
It is ok for us to struggle with the supernatural...
It is natural to struggle with the supernatural...
Listen… It is natural to struggle with the natural...
I struggle with natural babies being formed and born. I struggle with how plants do what they do. I struggle with chemicals and chemistry.
How can it be that the winds blow, skin heals, and how is it possible for Daniel Sikes to out-fish me?
I struggle with these questions… and with these natural, normal occurrences...
So, of course… we will struggle struggle with the supernatural...
But even if we struggle with the supernatural...
When God speaks… When God promises… When God says it...
We have best come to realize and believe that with our God… all things are possible.
Genesis 1:1 - The greatest miracle ever… “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth...” He spoke and called all things into being...
Impossible...
God sent a universal flood...
Impossible...
God gave two senior citizens, Abraham and Sarah… a baby… naturally...
Impossible...
God split the Red Sea in half… gave bread from heaven… water from a Rock...
God did signs and wonders through Moses and the Prophets… God brought walls down with trumpets...
God calls down fire from heaven… God opens the ground and swallows up rebels...
God makes a donkey speak… God makes the sun stand still… He makes axe heads float...
God saves his people from lions and burning furnaces… opens up big fish’s mouth to swallow Jonah...
Outside of these unique supernatural events...
The Lord God makes promises along the way… sometimes hundreds, if not thousands of years before they happen.
And then they happen…
Impossible...
And the Lord has proven Himself over and over again...
To be what? To be a God of His Word.
To be the God who does the impossible...
Joshua, Moses right hand man, told the people as they went forward… to remember… that God’s words… not one has failed. (Joshua 23)
All of God’s promises find their Yes in Him (2 Cor. 1:19-20).
The word of the Lord does not return back empty/void.
And for anyone… anyone of us to doubt the works and words of God...
Is to doubt the Person and Character of God...
So listen:
What word or promise do you struggle with today?
What word or promise do we doubt today?
*You are created by God and for God. Through Christ you are God’s child. You are accepted, loved, chosen, and you belong to God. You are redeemed and forgiven from all sins; you are free from all condemnation; you are born again by the spirit of the Living God. You are a citizen of heaven, God’s workmanship...
Jesus is coming back for you and to destroy all sin, all evil, all death… and we shall reign with Christ forever...
Is this impossible… Is this too hard to believe?
God is working in you and through you...
God is transforming you...
When you see your sin… God sees the perfect righteousness of Christ...
You are a new creation… You are a child of God...
Jesus is coming back for you...
There will be a new heavens and a new earth...
Is this impossible...?
What is too hard to believe?
What is impossible with God?
We might not be able to understand it all.
We might not be able to explain it all...
We might have a few questions to ask and to study...
But can we believe what God has spoken and believe it all?
Nothing is impossible with God...
“But Ryan… This is going on in my life, and this has happened to me, and that has happened to me...”
Can God’s promises still be true?
Yes!
“But Ryan… This is going on in the world and that is going on in the world… and this has happened...”
Can God’s promises still be true?
Yes!
“But science claims this is impossible… Can this Bible still be true?”
Yes!
All science can do is observe the natural and study the natural… to gain knowledge about God’s creation...
But we believe in a supernatural God who is over all creation, and can do all things...
Someone out there is saying:
“But come on brother… it has been so long… Jesus is never coming back...”
Listen… this angel is communicating a promise that was first mentioned in Genesis 3:15 “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.””
Thousands of years before this conversation with Mary… God made a promise to Adam, Eve, and all of humanity… A child was going to come, and this Seed would crush the serpent's head...
And thousands of years later… In the fullness of time… Christ came.
God has been faithful throughout the ages… what makes us think that He will not be faithful now.
What is too hard to believe? What is too big for God?
What is causing us to doubt this God?
“Mary… God is going to do something supernatural in your life...”
“Mary… God is going to do something He has never done before...”
“Mary… God’s promises are going to come through you...”
“Mary… God is going to use your life and all the details of your life...”
For nothing will be impossible with God...
Verse 38 - And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to be according to your word...”
This is what faith speaks...
This is how we respond...
Yes, we ask questions.… Yes, we dig in the Scriptures and pray to God for wisdom and understanding...
But this is our heart and our minds in motion with the Spirit of God...
In light of what we know and understand about our God...
We look to God, to His character, promises, and power...
And we will respond in this way...
“Behold… I am the Lord’s servant… let it be...”
He can do all things… and He is the God Who keeps His promises...
We extend our hands and hearts to the Lord and submit ourselves to Him...
“Lord, behold your servant… may it be according to your word...
Lord, Behold your servant… may it be done to me… according to your word...
Lord, I don’t understand how or why… I don’t understand the details...
But what I know is this… With you all things are possible...
And you are my faithful God Who keeps His Word... always...
Behold your servant… I will choose to believe You.
Is there anyone struggling with doubts today?
Is there anyone who may be struggling with God’s Character and or faithfulness?
Come and behold the God of beginning and end, the Alpha and Omega...
Come and behold the Living God who has revealed Himself to us...
And place your faith, your trust and hope in Him today...
Close and Pray.
