Philippians 2:5-7
Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be exploited.
Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when he had come as a man,
The Majesty and Mystery of Christ’s Humility
The Majesty and Mystery of Christ’s Humility
Imagine the scene: The eternal Son of God, the One through whom all things were created, enters our world not in a palace but in a stable.
No royal fanfare, no parade.
Instead, there’s a manger, rough straw, and the quiet presence of animals.
What a contrast!
The highest becomes the lowest.
But Why would Jesus do this?
But Why would Jesus do this?
Because He came to serve, not to be served.
He came to show us a different way—a way of humility.
Humility Defined by Christ
Humility Defined by Christ
Paul tells us to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.
That means embracing a life where status and recognition aren’t our highest goals.
Humility is not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less.
Jesus didn’t cling to His rights or privileges.
Instead, He laid them down for the sake of love.
In a world that tells us to chase after more
more attention,
more success,
more comfort
Jesus invites us to go lower, to choose the path of service.
Humility in Our Everyday Lives
Humility in Our Everyday Lives
During the Christmas season, it’s easy to get swept up in busyness and stress.
We might focus on gifts, gatherings, or getting everything just right.
But humility calls us to pause.
Can we listen more and speak less?
Can we look for small ways to serve others—maybe even in secret, without expecting recognition?
Can we let go of the need to be right, or to have the last word?
Humility is often found in the ordinary moments—a gentle word, a helping hand, an unnoticed act of kindness.
So ask yourself
When was a time you saw humility modeled by someone else?
as we navigate this christmas season ask yourself
What’s one area of your life where you sense God calling you to embrace humility this season?
and ask yourself
How can you serve someone this week in a way that reflects Christ’s heart?
If you’re journaling, you might want to write down your thoughts or a prayer.
Closing
Closing
As you go into this week, remember that the King of Kings came as a servant.
Let His humility shape your heart and your actions.
May you find joy in serving others, and may Christ’s example lead you into a deeper, richer experience of Christmas.
Prayer
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for showing us what true humility looks like.
You stepped down from heaven and became a servant for our sake.
Forgive us for the times we chase after our own comfort and recognition.
Teach us to see others as You do, and to serve with joy and love.
This Christmas, let us follow Your example—choosing humility over pride, service over self, and love over status.
Amen.
