Luke 1-2

Thesis: As we look at the Christmas Story, the story of the birth of Christ, think about each portion we will go over tonight and notice their significance.

Introduction

God is Transcendent…
Jesus spoke the world into being… (Genesis 1:3 “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.”)
This God Who is so much higher than us, inexplicably higher than us, chose to be born like this...
Society hides behind the phrase “happy holidays” as to not offend anybody…
This is not just any story…

Gabriel’s Message To Mary (1:26-38)

Matt
From OT prophecies like Isaiah and Micah comes the beginning of its fulfillment…
Isaiah 7:14 ““Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”
Gabriel describes what is going to happen to Mary, but more importantly he describes Who is coming…

Mary’s Response (1:46-56)

Callie
Mary responds with praise and Scripture from multiple psalms…
Mary did not take this blessing lightly… She was amazed with her God…

Jesus’ Birth (2:1-20)

Drew
This is the culmination of these prophecies coming to pass…
The King has come, the Creator of all things, the Savior has entered our world…

Conclusion

This is no ordinary story, it is the story that tells of the promised Messiah Who would save His people from their sins… (in a cave, in a manger [feeding trough] because there was no room in the inn, in the little town of Bethlehem, complete humility…)
