As the Wonderful Counselor
Behold, Consult, and Cherish
This week we look ass the second name given to the coming Messiah. He would be Mighty God.
(Mighty God Study)
Mighty- Champion
HE would be a victor
Isaiah 10:21 “21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.”
Psalm 24:8 “8 Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.”
His Kingdom
Psalm 45:6 “6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.”
His Kingdom lasts
God -True God and Ruler
HE would be be born a victor and with the power of God as the true ruler.
He would be Mighty in His humanity as God.
Christ fulfilled this promise. Can we see these victories? We will see how the Bible teaches us He fulfilled the promise of being a Mighty God.
I believe we will find what makes Christ the way the truth and the life.
1. Mighty Refuge
1. Mighty Refuge
The victory of Refuge: over the wondering
Isaiah 53:6 “6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.”
Have you ever been lost?
They Joy of being found
The fulfillment is seen at His birth
He is our promised refuge
Galatians 4:4–5 “4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”
He is victorious in fulfilling God’s plan for Humanities sin. God in His graciousness is very aware of mans depravity and offers the refuge
The promise of the mighty God was that He was able to redeem all of us as we are under the law.
Under the Law
Paul would state in his writings that to be under the law is being under sin and its power, through the faith in Christ we are liberated from this dominion and live in the refuge of grace.
To be the mighty God he had to come in the form of man and live in obedience to the father.
The promises are an insight to the obedient messiah; what man was incapable of doing becuase of their sin. -Under the Law
The fulfillment is seen in His Earthly Ministry
Matthew 11:28–30 “28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.””
Location of Refuge: Come to Him; He has made Himself known
John 10:27–29 “27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
This isn't a temporary refuge. I am good, now. This is where we were created to be.
He comes to accomplish the will of the father, what is needed is a mighty warrior.
We are in a battle we need refuge. It is Christ
2. Mighty Authority
2. Mighty Authority
The Victory of Authority: over all things
Bad taste of authority
Humanity loves to be in control and in charge.
(Authority is good; it goes south when it removes God as the ultimate authority and doesn’t operate as Christ has shown us)
If Christ was dependent on anyone other than God.
John 5:26–27 “26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.”
What has Christ done with this Authority
Met physical needs
Led to the Glory of the Father
Matthew 9:6–8 “6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, pick up your bed and go home.” 7 And he got up and went home. 8 But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.”
Does this means when Jesus doesn’t heal then He doesn’t have the authority?
Isaiah 48:10 “10 “Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.”
He has shown us to live:
Philippians 2:5–8 “5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
Mighty Authority fulfilled in Christ
Philippians 2:9–11 “9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Authority lead to fulfillment
John 10:17–18 “17 For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. 18 No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.””
3. Mighty Obedience
3. Mighty Obedience
The victory of Obedience
Hebrews 12:2 “2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Christ is the victor of obedience
Mark 1:12–13 “12 Immediately the Spirit impelled Him to go out into the wilderness. 13 And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him.”
We can take for granted Christs obedience,
He was tempted in every way
The victory comes in our life when we find rest in the one who provides what we need for obedience
Obedience in His Ministry
John 17:1–12 “1 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, 2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. 3 This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. 6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; 8 for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me. 9 I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours; 10 and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. 11 I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. 12 While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.”
Obedience in Death
John 18:11 “11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?””
Application:
What is the importance of all of this today.
Christ is Mighty God
His authority leads to live
Believer you have been given authority
1 Corinthians 4:1–2 “1 Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.”
Conclusion:
Christ is the Wonderful Counselor who reconciles all things, He is the Mighty God who has authority over all things.
This Christmas in the midst of all we have going one, join with me keeping our eyes on Christ, surrender to His authority in your live and serve Him with what He gives you
Communion
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 “23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”
