Step-by-Step Guide for Running the Lord’s Table

Preparation

Action: Pray silently, preparing your heart and asking God for reverence and guidance.

Welcome the Congregation

Say:

"Brothers and sisters, as we prepare to partake of the Lord’s Supper, let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul:"

Read:

1 Corinthians 11:23–26

“23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

1# Backwards Look

The back wards look allows us as believers to look back at CHRIST’S Death, Burial and Resurrection.

2# Forward Look

1 Corinthians 11:26

“26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

This verse gives us hope to look forward to in the future. When christ will return as our conquering king.

3# Inward Look

Call for Self-Examination

1 Corinthians 11:27–29

“27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

This is a warning to those who are unsaved, if you have not trusted Jesus Christ as your saviour I ask that you don't partake.

Those who have trusted Christ to be there Saviour, these verses do not mean if you have a sin issue you shouldn’t partake, because we have already been forgiven.

So for a moment I’d like to allow a moment of silence for all of us to examine ourselves before God inwardly.

MOMENT OF SILENCE, THEN PRAY

"Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ, who gave His life that we might have eternal life. As we partake of these elements, help us to remember His sacrifice and to examine our hearts. Sanctify us, Lord, and draw us closer to You.

In Jesus’ name, amen."

5# Distribute the Bread (Body of Christ)

Action: Hold up the bread

Matthew 26:26

“26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.”

LET THE MEN DISTIBUTE THE BREAD

Say: "This is the bread, which represents the body of our Lord Jesus Christ, broken for us.

LET THE MAN ON THE LEFT PRAY

6# Partake of the Bread

Action: Allow the congregation to eat the bread in silence, reflecting on Christ’s sacrifice.

7# Distribute the Cup (Blood of Christ)

Action: Hold up the cup

Matthew 26:27-28

“27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;”

“28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

Say: "This cup is the new testament in the blood of Jesus Christ, shed for the forgiveness of sins.”

LET THE MAN ON THE RIGHT PRAY

8# Partake of the Cup

Action: Allow the congregation to drink quietly, contemplating the significance of Christ’s blood.

9# Conclude with a HYMN

“30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.”

Say: "Go in peace, rejoicing in the Lord’s salvation. Until He comes again, let us continue to proclaim His death BUT more importantly HIS resurrection."
