The rapture is an eschatological event in which Christians purportedly will rise into the sky to join Christ as he returns to earth.

premillennialism
For premillennialists, the rapture occurs in conjunction with the “great tribulation” (
Amillennialists
Amillennialists often hold to a figurative or idealist position on the rapture. They believe along with premillennialists that Christians will meet Jesus in the air when he returns, but they argue that a first-century audience would have understood the rapture event in connection with another statement in the same key passage, namely that believers will “meet” Jesus in the air.
Postmillennialists
Postmillennialists largely assert that the rapture will happen after all of the events mentioned above—the great tribulation, Christ’s second coming, and the resurrection of believers.
Tribulation
The tribulation refers to seven years of judgment that take place in the eschaton, a time when God will rain judgment upon the earth in general and the nation of Israel in particular.
Pretribulationists believe in a pretribulational rapture and a premillennial return of Christ to the earth.
Preterism is the view that the prophecies of
Posttribulationism, often held by those who adhere to a historic premillennialist view, maintains that the church will pass through a future tribulation prior to being removed from the earth by Christ.
