Introduction

“The King Is Dead—Long Live the King!”

Every time a monarch dies, the proclamation rings out: “The king is dead—long live the king!” It’s a reminder that earthly kings are temporary, fragile, and mortal. Psalm 72 stands in contrast: The King it points to does not die. His reign does not end. His kingdom does not fade. He is eternal—and His reign brings eternal peace.
