Suffering And Death

The Father will subject all things to Jesus
the millennial kingdom will be a kingdom of peace where Jesus will be King of the universe
we know it will happen but we can only see see it by faith
because this is still in our future BUT
V 9
Jesus Christ, the only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to Sheol.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
He was made a little lower than the angels when He died
and because he died a substitutionary death God the Father crowned Him with the glory He had before He became human
V 9 the grace of God
Do we have anything to do with grace?
do we choose to receive grace?
do we go out looking for grace?
Grace is   the desire and ability to do the will of God
Philippians 2:13 LSB
for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
God's Spirit is continually giving us the grace (desire and power) to do what pleases Him!
So, to these churches in Macedonia God has given the desire and ability to do something
Grace also means charity when God saved us through grace. He saved us through His charity
because of Gods grace Jesus tasted death
taste is to learn about -
Jesus God had never experienced death
but we are born to die
we are condemned to die
Jesus physically knew now what it meant to die
he could now relate to mankind
the fear of death that people have
people will at funerals try to put the deceased in a better place because it makes the living feel better
Jesus has been through hunger, tiredness, been ridiculed, tempted by satan.
He’s been slandered, misunderstood,
He has been beaten, nailed to a cruel torturous cross and died.
He has tasted all of these things
so that He can sympathize with us in our troubles
no matter what our troubles are
V 10
it was fitting
this was planned. God, before Adam sinned planned for the Son to die for sin
when Jesus was creating the world knew that on an appointed day He would die for this creation
God’s grace, His charity to the bride of Christ
to bring many sons to share with the glory with Jesus
to perfect Jesus
isn’t Jesus already perfect?
as a savoir He was not
if He did not die there would be no salvation
to be a perfect savior he had to be the substitute lamb
He was perfected through sufferings
we saw this last week in rev
Revelation 5:9–10 LSB
And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the scroll and to open its seals, because You were slain and purchased for God with Your blood people from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. “And You made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign upon the earth.”
Because He suffered He became the pioneer of our salvation
Jesus went before us and established the trail to safely come to God
He tore down the curtain to the Holies of Holies so that all believers can come to the Father
V 11
sanctified - to be set apart, to be made Holy
King David demonstrates setting apart
2 Samuel 8:2 LSB
He also struck Moab, and measured them with the line, making them lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, bringing tribute.
when those soldiers layed down they probably thought that it was to die
but 1/3 of them lived they had no choice in the matter it was chosen for them
we have been sanctified / chosen to be Holy to be called a brother of Christ
Jesus did not call the disciples brothers until after the death and resurrection
we as a child of God Jesus calls us brethren
V 12
go to Psalm 22
V 1-21 Jesus is on the cross
V 22 there is a dramatic change
now there are brethren, Joy, and worship
there is glorifying God
Hebrews 2:1 LSB
For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away.
V 3
V 9 - 13
Jesus tasted death for us
Jesus the Pioneer of our salvation
we were sanctified set apart to be the Brother of Christ
Jesus blazed the trail for our redemption
to bring us into His family
none of the angels could do this for anyone
