真の知恵を理解する
知恵について考えるとき、私たちは自然と箴言を思い浮かべます。しかし、箴言は知恵を称賛するだけでなく、それをどこで見つけるかを教えています。箴言2章6節は「主が知恵を与え、主の口から知識と英知が出る」と宣言しています。
この三つの要素は共に働きますが、それぞれ異なる目的があります。知識とは何かについて知ること、物事がどう働くかを理解することです。英知とは、表面の下で何が起きているかを知ることです。知恵とは、正しい方向に進むために最善の行動を知ることです。
私たちはしばしば知識と英知で止まってしまいます。情報を集め、状況を分析しますが、最も重要なステップを見逃します。それは、実際に何をすべきかについての知恵を求めることです。真の知恵は問題解決を超えています。コロサイ1章9-10節によれば、知恵は私たちの人生で実を結ぶことと、主を喜ばせる生き方につながっています。
知恵の源
コロサイ2章2-3節は驚くべきことを明らかにしています。「キリストの内に、知恵と知識の宝がすべて隠されています。」これは、知恵が終わりのない勉強と分析を通して引き出すものではないことを意味します。知恵は掘り出すものではなく、受け取るものなのです。

実践する

Christmas is approaching, and with it comes something unique—opportunities to connect with people we don't see regularly. Family members, old friends, neighbors—the holiday season naturally brings people together. For believers, these gatherings present something more than social obligations. They are potential open doors for the gospel.
Paul writes in Colossians 4:5, "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time." This simple verse carries profound implications for how we approach our relationships with those who don't yet know Christ. But what does it actually mean to walk in wisdom, and how do we make the best use of the time we've been given?
Understanding True Wisdom
When we think about wisdom, we naturally turn to Proverbs. But Proverbs doesn't just celebrate wisdom—it tells us where to find it. Proverbs 2:6 declares, "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."
These three elements work together but serve different purposes. Knowledge is knowing about something—understanding how things work. Understanding is knowing what's happening behind the scenes. Wisdom is knowing the best action to take to move in the right direction.
We often stop at knowledge and understanding. We gather information, we analyze situations, but we miss the most crucial step—seeking wisdom for what to actually do. True wisdom goes beyond problem-solving. According to Colossians 1:9-10, wisdom connects to bearing fruit in our lives and living in a way that pleases the Lord.
The Source of Wisdom
Colossians 2:2-3 reveals something remarkable: "In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." This means wisdom is not something we extract through endless study and analysis. Wisdom is not dug up—it is received.
Wisdom comes as we walk with Christ, spend time with Him, and trust Him. This has direct implications for how we interact with unbelievers. Paul specifically instructs us to walk in wisdom toward outsiders because our daily interactions require divine guidance that only comes from fellowship with Jesus.
Making the Best Use of Time
The second part of Paul's instruction—"making the best use of the time"—carries the idea of seizing opportunities as they arise. When a store offers a massive sale on something valuable, people don't hesitate. They recognize the opportunity and act immediately.
Similarly, we should be alert for opportunities to lead someone who doesn't know Jesus one step closer to Him. Paul himself, even while imprisoned, prayed that God would open doors for sharing Christ. He wanted to be ready when those doors opened.
A Team Effort, Not a Solo Performance
When we think about evangelism, we often adopt what could be called an "American football mindset"—the pressure falls entirely on us to carry someone all the way to a decision for Christ. This creates either intense pressure or paralyzing fear.
The reality is more like soccer. One person moves the ball as far as they can, then passes it to someone else. When an open door appears in conversation, we take it as far as we're able, trusting that God has prepared others to continue the work.
Most believers came to faith through the influence of multiple people—different conversations, different moments, different seeds planted and watered over time. Some opportunities are for planting seeds, even when that feels uncomfortable. Other opportunities are for watering seeds we didn't know were there. And sometimes, the Lord opens doors to harvest—to lead someone to receive His forgiveness.
God opens and closes these doors. Our job is not to make things happen but to be sensitive to where the Holy Spirit is leading and ready to walk through the doors He opens. Jesus gave His life to save sinners, and His work continues.
Walking It Out
Walking in wisdom begins with your relationship with Christ. He is the source of the wisdom you need, which means your devotional life cannot be neglected. As you prepare to spend time with people who may not be believers, pray for the Lord to give you wisdom. He will provide it at the right time.
Keep your ears open for moments when God is opening a door for conversation about Him. These moments may come unexpectedly, but they are divine appointments. Follow as the Lord leads you, staying sensitive to where He is going. When you walk with Him daily, He will guide your words, your actions, and even your thoughts in ways that bring Him glory.
