So why did the shepherds believe? Why did the Wiseman believe, why did both educated and uneducated jews believe in this baby, who grew to be a man, with a fantastic claim. He proclaimed that we was the savior, the Son of the most high? Why would anyone believe such an account?
For it is written:
Last week we said that faith comes before seeing all the evidence. While this is true we are going to look at the evidence. Again, if you have chosen in your heart not to believe than you will find a way to harden your heart and not see. But for those of us, who have a tiny mustard seed faith. You will see and experience the answer to this question. Today we are going to let the scripture speak for itself.
700 years before the birth of Christ a passage was written describing in detail the long awaited messiah. In graphic detail this passage outlines for us His crucifixion. In many Jewish circles even today this passage is known as the forbidden chapter and is not read in synagogues because if it were to be read people may here The Word and believe in Yeshua and recognize Him as the Messiah.
Instead of Just reading it to you, We will read the story of Christ as is written in the Gospels and every time an event takes place that was predicted in Old Testament we will pause to read that passage.
So that the scriptures themselves will give us the answer ”Is he, Jesus the Savior.
26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,
27 to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And the angel came to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you.”
29 But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be.
30 Then the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31 Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.
32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”
6 For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
7 The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.
8 In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock.
9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10 But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people:
11 Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.
2 Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; one will come from you to be ruler over Israel for me. His origin is from antiquity, from ancient times.
12 The next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 they took palm branches and went out to meet him. They kept shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord —the King of Israel!”
13 See, my servant will be successful;
he will be raised and lifted up and greatly exalted.
55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they could not find any.
56 For many were giving false testimony against him, and the testimonies did not agree.
57 Some stood up and gave false testimony against him, stating,
58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’ ”
59 Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.
3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.
60 Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, “Don’t you have an answer to what these men are testifying against you?”
61 But he kept silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, he did not open his mouth.
62 “I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
63 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses?
64 You have heard the blasphemy. What is your decision?” They all condemned him as deserving death.
65 Then some began to spit on him, to blindfold him, and to beat him, saying, “Prophesy!” The temple servants also took him and slapped him.
14 Just as many were appalled at you— his appearance was so disfigured that he did not look like a man, and his form did not resemble a human being—
1 As soon as it was morning, having held a meeting with the elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin, the chief priests tied Jesus up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate.
2 So Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” He answered him, “You say so.”
3 And the chief priests accused him of many things.
4 Pilate questioned him again, “Aren’t you going to answer? Look how many things they are accusing you of!”
5 But Jesus still did not answer, and so Pilate was amazed.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, he did not open his mouth.
6 At the festival Pilate used to release for the people a prisoner whom they requested.
7 There was one named Barabbas, who was in prison with rebels who had committed murder during the rebellion.
8 The crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do for them as was his custom.
9 Pilate answered them, “Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you?”
10 For he knew it was because of envy that the chief priests had handed him over.
11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that he would release Barabbas to them instead. 12 Pilate asked them again, “Then what do you want me to do with the one you call the king of the Jews?” 13 Again they shouted, “Crucify him!”
14 Pilate said to them, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!” 15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.
12 Therefore I will give him the many as a portion,
and he will receive the mighty as spoil,
because he willingly submitted to death,
and was counted among the rebels;
yet he bore the sin of many
and interceded for the rebels.
29 Those who passed by were yelling insults at him, shaking their heads, and saying, “Ha! The one who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
30 save yourself by coming down from the cross!”
31 In the same way, the chief priests with the scribes were mocking him among themselves and saying, “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!
32 Let the Messiah, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe.” Even those who were crucified with him taunted him.
39 Then one of the criminals hanging there began to yell insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40 But the other answered, rebuking him: “Don’t you even fear God, since you are undergoing the same punishment?
41 We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 And he said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
33 When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
34 And at three Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lemá sabachtháni?” which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
10 Yet the Lord was pleased to crush him severely. When you make him a guilt offering, he will see his seed, he will prolong his days, and by his hand, the Lord’s pleasure will be accomplished.
34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out.
35 He who saw this has testified so that you also may believe. His testimony is true, and he knows he is telling the truth.
36 For these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: Not one of his bones will be broken.
37 Also, another Scripture says: They will look at the one they pierced.
35 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “See, he’s calling for Elijah.”
36 Someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, fixed it on a stick, offered him a drink, and said, “Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down.”
37 Jesus let out a loud cry and breathed his last.
38 Then the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
39 When the centurion, who was standing opposite him, saw the way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
57 When it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.
58 He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. Then Pilate ordered that it be released.
59 So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean, fine linen,
60 and placed it in his new tomb, which he had cut into the rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the tomb.
9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, but he was with a rich man at his death, because he had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully.
62 The next day, which followed the preparation day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate
63 and said, “Sir, we remember that while this deceiver was still alive he said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’
64 So give orders that the tomb be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come, steal him, and tell the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”
65 “You have a guard of soldiers,” Pilate told them. “Go and make it as secure as you know how.”
66 They went and secured the tomb by setting a seal on the stone and placing the guards.
1 After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it.
3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.
4 The guards were so shaken by fear of him that they became like dead men.
5 The angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.
6 He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you.”
11 After his anguish, he will see light and be satisfied. By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many, and he will carry their iniquities.
Can there still be any doubt?
Can there still be any doubt?
Today you saw for yourselves the prediction of the Messiah, some 700 hundred years before His Birth,
His story laid out in great detail. However, this information is only valuable if you realize why it was that He Died. He did this for you and for me.
The Father in his infinite Love looked down at the broken Human condition of mankind and our sin. And for His own Glory wrote redemption's Story. He chose to send His one and only Son to be the sacrifice for the world.
6 We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished him for the iniquity of us all.
Sin was man’s problem so by a man it had to be paid for . Christ became man and took our place. He took our punishment and shame. He died on the cross for you and for me. But as we just read about He didn’t remain in the Tomb He arose from the grave defeating sin and death, once and for all.
So that all those who would turn from their sin,by putting their faith in Jesus Christ would receive the forgiveness that he bought through his death and the victory through his Resurrection.
17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.
Would you do that today? Will you give your heart permission to believe the truth. Will you turn from your sins and accept forgiveness? If you will every sin will be forgiven you and you will be saved. You will be redeemed, transformed, and have a relationship with God the Father through Jesus the Son.
