· 3 viewsIn Simeon’s quiet, faithful waiting, the Spirit leads him straight to the Savior he’s longed to see. And in this moment, everything shifts as Christ is revealed in his arms. In this simple encounter we are reminded that the Spirit still moves us toward Jesus in the very place we least expect Him.

Christ Reveled (beginning of series), the Messiah is here
it is becoming real
look at what the passage says about Simeon, and what Simeon says, sees something that confounds expectations
he sees the Messiah as he is
or look at the announcement, how does this passage challenge our perceptions of Jesus
Jesus didn’t fit in any box, he still does not fit into any of our boxes either
Simeon -
light - messianic language (Isaiah 42, 46, 60:1-3,
Glory is temple language
Luke understands more about this message than Simeon did
falling and rising - fulfilled later in Luke (Mary’s song points to rising and falling)
when you encounter Jesus,he demands a response
Simeon is first turns attention to God and praises God
then he addresses Mary
falling & rising (Isaiah 8)
and a sword will pierce your own soul - interesting way to end - defies expectations
this story, as well as Anna after this, waiting for the promise of a Messiah to be fulfilled, joining a long line of those that waited before the, how long O Lord
