Verse 1-3) And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
Just as it was appointed unto all the world to pay taxes to ceaser, it has been appointed unto all men once to die but after this, the judgment…
We all owe God a debt of sin, we owe a tax on our souls that we must pay.
Every sin you have committed has accrued great debt to your soul.
Notice that just as all the people must go to their town of birth to pay their tax in verse 3, one day your Soul shall return to the God who created it.
God breathed out your soul and like a spark and one day soon it shall return to the flame from which it came.
And you will stand before God and be judged and pay for your sins in a devils hell.
Now…..Thats a pretty dark opening to our second Christmas sermon amen?!
But that would have been the story if Christ had never came………
