THERE’S A SECOND WIND COMING

Key Text: 2 Corinthians 4:16 (NKJV) “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”

INTRODUCTION: WHEN THE INNER MAN NEEDS AIR

WHEN HE BREATHES AGAIN

There is a holy moment in the believer’s life when strength runs low—not because faith is gone, but because the road has been long.

The New Testament never pretends that discipleship is effortless. Jesus Himself acknowledged the weight carried by those who follow Him. He spoke to men and women who were faithful, obedient, and still exhausted.

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Notice—Jesus does not rebuke the weary. He invites them.

Weariness does not disqualify you; it identifies you as someone who has been carrying something precious for a long time. Many believers are not tired because they stopped loving God—but because they never stopped serving Him.

The apostle Paul echoes this truth when he says:

That word renewed does not mean replaced—it means revitalized. It speaks of something receiving fresh life while still in motion.

This is where the Spirit introduces what we call the second wind.

In the natural, a second wind comes when the body pushes past exhaustion and suddenly breath returns, rhythm stabilizes, and endurance rises. Spiritually, it is when the Holy Spirit breathes again on the inner man—not with hype, but with life.

Jesus modeled this after the resurrection.

John 20:22 (NKJV) “And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”

Before instruction… Before commissioning… Before sending…

He breathed.

Because breath precedes movement. Life precedes assignment. Renewal precedes impact.

Some of God’s people today are still standing, still praying, still believing—but inwardly gasping for air. The Spirit of God is not frustrated with that condition. He is responding to it.

This is not the season to quit. This is not the moment to retreat. This is the hour when the Holy Spirit says:

“You have not reached the end of your strength— you have reached the place where My strength takes over.”

What is coming is not louder effort, but deeper supply. Not more striving, but fresh breathing. Not emotional adrenaline, but Spirit-given endurance.

Church, hear this clearly and lovingly:

There is a second wind coming. For the faithful. For the weary. For those who have been pouring out longer than anyone knows.

And when He breathes again, you will not merely survive—you will continue with grace, clarity, and renewed power.

POINT 1: JESUS ADDRESSES THE WEARY, NOT THE STRONG

Scripture: Matthew 11:28–29 (NKJV) “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Jesus does not call the energetic—He calls the exhausted.

Weariness is not failure; it is evidence that you have been carrying weight.

Real-Life Illustration

A worker finishing a long shift doesn’t need correction—he needs rest. In the same way, many believers are worn down not from sin, but from responsibility, service, and faithfulness under pressure.

Jesus says,

“Bring your weight to Me.”

The second wind begins when we stop pretending we’re strong.

POINT 2: WAITING ON THE LORD IS ACTIVE DEPENDENCE

Scripture: Hebrews 4:9–11 (NKJV) “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God…”

Biblical rest is not inactivity—it is trust without striving.

Waiting is when we stop fueling ourselves and allow God to supply what we lack.

Real-Life Illustration

A device must remain plugged in to recharge. Many believers pray but stay unplugged emotionally—never allowing God to fully restore them.

Waiting recalibrates the soul. Waiting restores spiritual breath. Waiting invites renewal.

POINT 3: THE SECOND WIND COMES THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT

Scripture: Romans 8:11 (NKJV) “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you… He will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit.”

This is not emotional motivation—this is resurrection power.

The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead renews the believer daily.

Real-Life Illustration

Adrenaline fades quickly, but oxygen sustains life. Emotional highs collapse, but Spirit-filled renewal sustains endurance.

God is not giving you a rush— He is giving you life again.

POINT 4: THE SECOND WIND COMES WHEN WE ACKNOWLEDGE LIMITS

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV) “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Weakness is not the enemy—it is the gateway.

Grace flows most powerfully when self-reliance ends.

Real-Life Illustration

A person who refuses help will collapse under weight they were never meant to carry. But once assistance is accepted, the burden becomes manageable.

God’s strength is not added to pride—it replaces it.

POINT 5: THE SECOND WIND RESTORES PACE, NOT JUST POWER

Scripture: Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

God does not remove the assignment—He restores endurance.

You are not being asked to quit. You are being empowered to continue well.

Real-Life Illustration

Marathon runners don’t sprint the entire race. Wisdom teaches rhythm. The second wind allows believers to keep moving without burning out.

POINT 6: THE SECOND WIND RENEWS THE INNER MAN DAILY

Scripture: Ephesians 3:16 (NKJV) “That He would grant you… to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.”

God’s priority is inward strength.

The outer man may age, tire, and strain—but the inner man is renewed daily by the Spirit.

Real-Life Illustration

Engines last longer when maintained internally, not just polished externally. God is strengthening what cannot be seen.

Quiet strength lasts longer than loud energy.

POINT 7: THE SECOND WIND PREPARES YOU FOR GREATER FRUIT

Scripture: Acts 1:8 (NKJV) “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…”

Renewal is not only for recovery—it is for commission.

God restores strength so that:

You can finish the race

You can carry others

You can advance the Kingdom

The second wind is preparation for impact.

CONCLUSION: BREATHE AGAIN

You are not behind. You are not forgotten. You are not failing.

You are being renewed.

The Spirit of God is breathing again on:

Tired prayers

Weary hearts

Faithful servants

Enduring saints

There’s a second wind coming.
