Many things in life bring joy. Joy is synonymous with happiness, delight, satisfaction, etc. While we experience joy on various levels there exists a supreme joy. It is a great joy…the greatest of joy. It is this joy that is proclaimed by angels. It is this joy that overcomes, overwhelms, and eases our fears.

Introduction

What kinds of things bring you joy?
Luke 2:10–11 ESV
10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
There is a supreme joy that only comes from God. It is a lasting joy…a sustaining joy.

The angels declare this joy and we can have this joy because…

1) …God is Personal!

For unto you…”
God sees you!
He comes to you!
Think about what this mean for us…
The God of the universe…comes to us!
“Video: He Came to Get Messy”

2) …God is Providential!

is born this day in the city of David…”
God provides for us….and He provides in detail!
He knew what we would need even before the foundations of the world!
John 1:1–5 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:14 ESV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Ephesians 1:3–10 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
God has provided what we ourselves could never provide for ourselves.
God has taken care of everything…down to the details!

3) …God is Powerful!

…a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
He is mighty to save!
He is “Messiah Yahweh”
He is present!
He is here!
He is Immanuel!
He is God with Us!

Closing

We find a supreme joy in Him because He is Personal, Providential, and Powerful.
The supreme joy we have in Him doesn’t depend on anything in this world, because it is not of this world.
It is the joy of the Lord, and it is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10 “…And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”” )
The world doesn’t give this kind of joy…it can’t!
This world can’t take this kind of joy away.
No matter the circumstances we find ourselves in, we are able to maintain and secure joy because of our awesome God who is Personal, Providential, and Powerful!
No one and nothing can rob us of our joy when it comes from God.
May we always be reminded of this profound truth every time we hear… “For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord!”
