Therefore…

“What is the therefore there for?”

The therefore indicates a result from the previous verses:

“Since Jesus humbled Himself and took on the form of a slave in perfect obedience to the Father…”

It reintroduces the train of thought that Paul had before the aside related to the humility and exaltation of Christ.

Philippians 2:4 ESV

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Now that we have seen the example in Christ lived out, it is your turn.

1 John 2:6 ESV

whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

…as you have always obeyed…
