Prophecy: The seed of the woman will crush the serpent’s head
Genesis 3:15 “15 And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.””
Fulfillment:
Galatians 4:4 “4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.”
Hebrews 2:14 “14 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.”
Significance:
Jesus is the promised Redeemer who reverses the curse of the fall.

Genesis 12:3 “3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”” Genesis 22:18 “18 And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.””
Fulfillment:
Matthew 1:1 “1 This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham:”
Galatians 3:16 “16 God gave the promises to Abraham and his child. And notice that the Scripture doesn’t say “to his children,” as if it meant many descendants. Rather, it says “to his child”—and that, of course, means Christ.”
Significance:
Jesus brings salvation not just to Israel, but to the world.

Fulfillment:
Luke 3:33 “33 Nahshon was the son of Amminadab. Amminadab was the son of Admin. Admin was the son of Arni. Arni was the son of Hezron. Hezron was the son of Perez. Perez was the son of Judah.”
Hebrews 7:14 “14 What I mean is, our Lord came from the tribe of Judah, and Moses never mentioned priests coming from that tribe.”
Significance:
Jesus is Israel’s rightful King.

2 Samuel 7:12–13 “12 For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong. 13 He is the one who will build a house—a temple—for my name. And I will secure his royal throne forever.”; Isaiah 9:6–7 “6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!”
Fulfillment:
Luke 1:32–33 “32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!””
Acts 2:30–36 “30 But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne. 31 David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave. 32 “God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. 33 Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today. 34 For David himself never ascended into heaven, yet he said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand 35 until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.” ’ 36 “So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!””
Significance:
Jesus reigns eternally as Messiah-King.

Isaiah 7:14 “14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).”
Fulfillment:
Matthew 1:22–23 “22 All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: 23 “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’ ””; Luke 1:26–35 “26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” 29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. Jesus is fully God and fully man.

Matthew 2:1 “1 Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking,”; Luke 2:4–7 “4 And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. 5 He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. 7 She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.”
Significance:
Confirms Jesus as the promised ruler of Israel.

I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”
Fulfillment:
Matthew 3:1–3 “1 In those days John the Baptist came to the Judean wilderness and began preaching. His message was, 2 “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” 3 The prophet Isaiah was speaking about John when he said, “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! Clear the road for him!’ ””
Significance:
Jesus’ ministry is divinely announced.

Matthew 4:12–16 “12 When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee. 13 He went first to Nazareth, then left there and moved to Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This fulfilled what God said through the prophet Isaiah: 15 “In the land of Zebulun and of Naphtali, beside the sea, beyond the Jordan River, in Galilee where so many Gentiles live, 16 the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.””
Significance:
The Messiah brings light to the spiritually dark.

Significance:
Authenticates Jesus as Messiah.

Fulfillment:
Matthew 13:34–35 “34 Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables. 35 This fulfilled what God had spoken through the prophet: “I will speak to you in parables. I will explain things hidden since the creation of the world.””
Significance:
Reveals truth to the faithful, conceals from the proud.

John 1:11 “11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.”; Luke 23:18 “18 Then a mighty roar rose from the crowd, and with one voice they shouted, “Kill him, and release Barabbas to us!””
Significance:
The suffering Messiah was expected, not accidental.

Romans 9:32–33 “32 Why not? Because they were trying to get right with God by keeping the law instead of by trusting in him. They stumbled over the great rock in their path. 33 God warned them of this in the Scriptures when he said, “I am placing a stone in Jerusalem that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. But anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”” ; Acts 4:11 “11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’”
Significance:
Jesus becomes the dividing line of faith.

Matthew 27:12–14 “12 But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent. 13 “Don’t you hear all these charges they are bringing against you?” Pilate demanded. 14 But Jesus made no response to any of the charges, much to the governor’s surprise.”
Significance:
Jesus willingly submits to suffering.

Psalm 22:16 “16 My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet.”

John 19:18 “18 There they nailed him to the cross. Two others were crucified with him, one on either side, with Jesus between them.” , John 19:37 “37 and “They will look on the one they pierced.””
Significance:
Written centuries before crucifixion existed.

Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:39–43 “39 The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery. 40 “Look at you now!” they yelled at him. “You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!” 41 The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus. 42 “He saved others,” they scoffed, “but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him! 43 He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ ””
Significance:
Exact fulfillment in Jesus’ crucifixion.

John 19:23–24 “23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 24 So they said, “Rather than tearing it apart, let’s throw dice for it.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing.” So that is what they did.”
Significance:
God’s sovereignty over even small details.

He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. 11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. Fulfillment:
Acts 2:31 “31 David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave.”
Significance:
Death could not hold the Messiah.

Ephesians 4:8 “8 That is why the Scriptures say, “When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people.””
Significance:
Jesus reigns with authority and glory.
