Dick and Marilyn Wattelet, founding pastor and 25 yrs ago was his last Christmas here at Joy he received his reward, and a little over 2 years ago, his wife joined him. But they left a legacy that cannot be mistaken, their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids are still vital members of this family. I met Marilyn before the end, and she just wanted to sing His praises. The stories I’ve heard show the impact they both made. Now I see the family has started a foundation to pay it forward. Jan 17th they’re having a volleyball tournament in support of this vision to pay it forward, called play it forward, then on Feb 28th, a worship night, Titled Praise it Forward. What a legacy!

This morning I’m going to do something a little different, it’s about a different legacy that was made for all of us.

A couple things, than I’d like the kids to come up for a story time special.

Unto us a Child is Born

Isaiah 9:6-7 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

The phrase 'unto us a child is born' … a miracle of God becoming flesh

It highlights the humility of Christ's birth in a stable, not really the same as we might understand as His divine authority.

But with this child, comes an incredible transformative impact in restoring humanity's relationship with God.

The humble birth of Jesus as a child signifies God's choice to enter our lives in the middle of our brokenness, inviting us to embody His love and humility in a world desperate for healing.

It’s an invitation for us to remember how much He loves us.

He sent His son… “Unto us”

A Child of Salvation

Luke 2:11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

During the holidays, we often bake cookies together as a family, and I always enjoy watching my kids' excitement as they decorate with sprinkles and frosting. It’s a beautiful mess, filled with laughter and love. Jesus’ birth was like the sweetest cookie—delivering joy and delight to our hearts with every bite, reminding us of the simple yet profound goodness God has given us.

As many of you know, Laura and I just adore the little ones we have here in our Joy family, so I’d like to read something special to them.
