Intro

We looked at Mary’s song, and now we’re looking at the Angel’s song.
The angels, Mary, Zechariiah the preist, simeon and anna, they all show us that the proper response to the incarnation of God the Son is to praise and celebration.
That’s why Christimas is endorsed, whether or not Jesus was born on 25th december 3BC or not is irrelevant. 25 December is a day that many Christians get together to remember what God has done and praise him! Any day is a good day for that.
Lets set the scene:
Angel Appeared to Mary and Jospeh - this is a child from HS
Mary & Joseph travelled to Bethlehem for the census
No room in the guest house, so they camp out in the stable area. Probably still a relative’s house, but not nice accomodation.
Jesus is born into the world, wrapped and popped into a feeding trough
Out in the scrub there’s some blokes watching thaeir sheep. They stayed with them.
God desired to breing signs and wonders to testify to the importance of what was happening in that manger, so he sent angels to visit the Shepherds and heral the amazing news that the Saviour, who is decended from King David, was born in the City of David:
Luke 2:11–12 ESV
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
But before they chuff off to have a look, this happens:
Luke 2:13 ESV
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
one angel; turned into a multitude!
the proper response to the incarnation of God the Son is to praise and celebration.
What do they sing?

Glory to God in the Highest...

Why?
The coming of this child is glorifying to god!
Every child is special, but, every person that ever exists has been born. God made it that way. It’s wonderful, but it’s ordinary.
This was something special, a special birst that was the occasion for a multitude of angels appearing on earth!
The will and acts of God in the world reflect God’s glory, and the natural response to seeing God’s wonderful deeds is to praise & worship.
When you see something exciting (like England getting bowled out) you instinctivley cheer - God’s mighty deeds show his honour, his splenndour, his weight and wonder, and the natural and good reaction is to reclect it back.
Back to the God in the highest! God of God, creator and over all. There is no one higher or greater.

...And on earth Peace...

We do not have peace - look at Bondi, look at Russia & Ukraine, look at many places in africa.
Peace is ultimatley impossible because of the problem of sin.
And peace with God is one of our greatest needs, but again the problem is sin.
There is peace that God brought to the world , through the birth of this child
Peace by cancelling the record of debt
Peace by overcoming Satan’s deception & the curse
Peace by taking away the sting of death.
Peace with injustice, knowing that it will get sorted out.
Reconcilliation between waring parties.
Peace...

...Among those with whom He is pleased.

“Among people of good pleasure”
SO, with whom is God pleased?
Those who walk in a way that God likes
Those who live their lives after God’s design - he made you, so he knows what’s best.
But the only way to enter into God’s good pleasure, is to come through Jesus.
The only way to the Father is through Jesus, Son of God
There is no other name under heaven by which you may be saved
There is no pleaseing God in the flesh, only in Christ
And there you will find peace! A Peace that can surpass the trials and tribulations of this world.
Even if an army encamp against me I will not fear
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.

So What?

In fulfillment of anciant prophecy Jesus came into the world.
The propoer response to the incarnation of God is crelebration & praise!
The Angel song reveals some wonderfull things about this birth - that
Glorify God
Peace on Earth
Among those with whom he is pleased.
Sing this song yourself! ("Gloria in excelsis Deo" )
