The Lord your God is in you midst...
These are the first words in a little verse out of the old testament.
The Lord is in your midst
Over the advent season we have seen the God of Hope prepare our soil from.
We saw the God of Peace fit out feet for the gospel.
We saw the God of Joy endure the cross and sit at the right hand of the Father
And we saw the God of love form us in his image.
As we continue on in this advent season we see that through this all that the LORD is in our midst.
Colossians 1:15–20 ESV
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Jesus has been in our midst since the beginning of time. Every step of the way. He walks with us, every single day, since Adam and Eve to your trip to the Christmas Eve service. He is in out midst.
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one to save...
Jesus didn’t just come to watch and observe. There are many deists out there that believe that God is the creator and he just set things in motion and forgot
But that’s not God.
Philippians 2:5–7 ESV
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Jesus came to be in our midst and save us. He is stronger than anything that could come against us.
Psalm 93:4 ESV
4 Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty!
There are a lot of things in this world that overwhelm us. But if he is truly in our midst and mighty to save then we can be comforted in all he does.
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness
What kind of god would create people then ignore them?
He is active in our very being. He walks with us, saves us and delights in us.
Psalm 149:4 ESV
4 For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation.
God did not enter his creation because he was bored. He entered into it because we were lost and need a savior. When you love something you would do anything to keep it and save it. Sometimes we don’t know how, but we try. God knew how. He loved us and knew the only way to save us from the path we were on was to show us a new path.
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love.
There is a Christmas song out there called the little Drummer Boy and every year a see a cartoon post of a little boy coming up to the manger with the caption, “Mary just got baby Jesus to sleep and this little boy said, “What this kid needs is a drum solo.”
A funny little strip, but what we need sometimes is just peace.
Matthew 11:28 ESV
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
The word rest there is the same word they use in the Hebrew, Sabbath. Which means rest. Only in Jesus can we find true rest.
Zephaniah 3:17 ESV
17 The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Some translations say it like this: “He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” This Christmas season, among all the festivities and gifts and décor, celebrate not only Jesus’ birth, but delight in all of who Jesus is. Listen for his shouts of joy as He also delights in you. He is with you. He is mighty to save. He loves you more than you can imagine.
Do you truly know that? Gospel message
