Opening Story: Standing on a balcony with Dragon’s Dad…On day my whole city will know Christ
What a dream, what a vision. How many people think like that. I think so many of us give up on the impossible, because we don’t see the God of the impossible.
Reference the Great Commission
Matthew 28:19–20 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
So here is the Big Idea: “as you go is not as hard as you think”
Why is not as hard, because the child that came so long ago is the Lord who reigns and will give you power through the Holy Spirit
Acts 1:8 ESV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
We are made for such much more than the small pursuits we go after…we dream too small, aim m to small, and think we can’t be change agents in this world, we are too easily satisfied.
It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” C.S Lewis
So, our desires have to change and I think we can find that motivation in the little town of Bethlehem.
Read Luke 2:4-7
Two things that Bethlehem was known for…The town of David, and the town where every Lamb that was slain for the temple came from there.
250,000 lambs were needed for the temple each year, Josphesus
Shepherds were there taking care of those sheep, they were not trusted, they were unclean (the blood) but they heard the message first…and they worshipped and changed.
They were bid to go, and they went, because as you go is not as hard as you think
We can step into that power because someone made the ultimate sacrifice for us.
John 1:29 ESV
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
You see he has equipped us to carry the same message perhaps you are like a lowly shepherd and your pursuits are too small let me invite you in to what God wants for you life and we want to help you with that because as you go is not has hard as you think. Riley had to take a first step and you can take a first step tonight.
