When Iron Floats

Bible Passage

2 Kings 6:1–7 ESV

Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See, the place where we dwell under your charge is too small for us. Let us go to the Jordan and each of us get there a log, and let us make a place for us to dwell there.” And he answered, “Go.” Then one of them said, “Be pleased to go with your servants.” And he answered, “I will go.” So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. But as one was felling a log, his axe head fell into the water, and he cried out, “Alas, my master! It was borrowed.” Then the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, he cut off a stick and threw it in there and made the iron float. And he said, “Take it up.” So he reached out his hand and took it.

Introduction

Imagine the chill of the early morning air as the sons of the prophets gather by the banks of the Jordan.

The sun is just beginning to rise, painting the river gold, as young men—hungry for more of God—prepare to build a new place for His presence.

They are not wealthy, but they are willing.

They are not powerful, but they are passionate.

With borrowed tools and borrowed faith, they swing their axes, each strike echoing their hope for a new beginning.

But suddenly—clang!—a cry pierces the air.

An axe head, precious and borrowed, flies off the handle and vanishes beneath the muddy waters.

Panic sets in.

Despair threatens to drown their dreams.

But Elisha, the man of God, steps forward.

He asks, “Where did it fall?”

He takes a stick, throws it into the river, and—against every law of nature—iron begins to float!

What was lost is restored.

What was impossible becomes reality.

And in that moment, God reveals: He is the God who makes iron float!

The Power to Reset, Refocus, and Revive

This is not just a story about a lost tool.

This is a story about a God who specializes in restoration.

When you lose what you cannot afford to lose, God steps in with supernatural recovery.

In this season, God will give you power to reset what has been broken, refocus on what truly matters, and revive what you thought was lost forever.

First He Will Give us the Power to RESET

God is the God of new beginnings.

He does not erase your past—He redeems it.

He does not discard your failures—He transforms them into testimonies.

When your effectiveness has sunk, when your spiritual edge is lost, God says, “I can make your iron float!”

You may have borrowed strength, borrowed hope, borrowed faith—but God is about to give you a reset that is all your own.

This New Year, don’t just wish for change—expect a divine reset!

Then he will give us the power to REFOCUS

The sons of the prophets were building for God, but they lost sight of the tool in their hand.

Sometimes, in the busyness of doing God’s work, we lose our spiritual focus.

We swing with zeal, but our edge is gone.

But God calls us to refocus—not on what we’ve lost, but on who He is.

He asks, “Where did it fall?”

He brings us back to the place of loss, not to shame us, but to show us His power.

When you refocus on God’s presence, miracles happen in the mundane.

He turns your place of loss into a place of testimony.

Finally he will give us power to be REVIVED

Revival is not just for the masses—it’s for the one who cries out, “Alas, Master!”

God revives what you thought was dead.

He breathes life into your sunken dreams.

He restores your spiritual sharpness.

He makes the impossible possible.

When iron floats, hope rises.

When iron floats, faith is revived.

When iron floats, the mission continues.

God is not finished with you yet!

He is the God who revives, restores, and renews.

Closing

Can I preach it like I feel it?

Somebody in this house has lost something precious.

You’ve lost your joy.

You’ve lost your peace.

You’ve lost your spiritual edge.

But I came to tell you—God is about to make your iron float!

He’s the God who steps into your Jordan.

He’s the God who defies the laws of nature.

He’s the God who specializes in the impossible!

He’s the God who restores what the enemy tried to steal!

He’s the God who says, “Pick it up for yourself!”

This is your year to recover!

This is your year to reset!

This is your year to refocus!

This is your year to revive!

If God can make iron float, He can lift you up!

If God can make iron float, He can restore your family!

If God can make iron float, He can revive your calling!

If God can make iron float, He can bring you back from the brink!

Somebody shout, “RESET!”

Somebody shout, “REFOCUS!”

Somebody shout, “REVIVE!”

Because when iron floats, the impossible becomes possible!

When iron floats, the story isn’t over!

When iron floats, God gets the glory!

So pick up your miracle!

Pick up your hope!

Pick up your purpose!

Because the God who made iron float is making all things new in you!
