CHRISTMAS EVE SERMON
CHRISTMAS EVE SERMON
Matthew 2:1–11 (CSB)
INTRODUCTION — A WORLD THAT CANNOT KEEP QUIET
INTRODUCTION — A WORLD THAT CANNOT KEEP QUIET
When Jesus enters the world, silence is impossible.
Heaven sings.
Angels proclaim.
Stars shine.
Crowds shout.
Creation itself finds its voice.
And Jesus says—if people refuse to sing, nature will.
POINT 1 — NATURE WILL SING
POINT 1 — NATURE WILL SING
Creation cannot Remain Silent When the King arrives
Creation cannot Remain Silent When the King arrives
Matthew 2:1–2; Luke 19:37–40
A. The Star Sang Without Words (Matt. 2:1–2)
A. The Star Sang Without Words (Matt. 2:1–2)
“We saw His star at its rising…”
The star did not speak—but it testified.
• It announced a King
• It summoned seekers
• It pointed beyond itself
John MacArthur: “The star was a sovereign act of God—creation obeying its Creator to lead men to Christ.”
In the ancient world, celestial signs were often associated with the birth of kings. God used a familiar language to draw unfamiliar hearts.
B. Nature Always Responds Rightly to Christ
B. Nature Always Responds Rightly to Christ
Jesus later said:
Now he came near the path down the Mount of Olives, and the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen:
Blessed is the King who comes
in the name of the Lord.
Peace in heaven
and glory in the highest heaven!
Some of the Pharisees from the crowd told him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
He answered, “I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out.”
Creation recognizes its Maker instinctively.
Human hearts must choose to respond.
Life Application
Life Application
• God’s revelation surrounds us—even when we miss it
• The question is not will Christ be proclaimed—but by whom
POINT 2 — SINGING ISN’T BELIEVING

Praise Can Be Loud Without Being Lasting
Praise Can Be Loud Without Being Lasting
John 12:12–13 “The next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm branches and went out to meet him. They kept shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord —the King of Israel!””
A. Crowds Sang—But Many Never Surrendered
A. Crowds Sang—But Many Never Surrendered
Palm branches waved.
Voices shouted.
Songs filled the streets.
Yet many of these same voices later cried, “Crucify Him.”
David Guzik: “It is possible to praise Jesus loudly and still reject Him deeply.”
B. Emotion Is Not the Same as Faith
B. Emotion Is Not the Same as Faith
Singing can stir the heart—but only faith changes it.
Christmas Eve Caution
Christmas Eve Caution
• It is possible to love Christmas songs and miss Christ
• It is possible to admire Jesus without trusting Him
• It is possible to sing about the Light and still walk in darkness
Life Application
Life Application
• Ask: Have I responded with faith—or only familiarity?
• Christ did not come to be celebrated once a year
• He came to be trusted every day
POINT 3 — WHY SHOULD WE SING?
POINT 3 — WHY SHOULD WE SING?
Because the Lord Has Come to Save
Because the Lord Has Come to Save
Psalm 98 “A psalm. Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has performed wonders; his right hand and holy arm have won him victory. The Lord has made his victory known; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his love and faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen our God’s victory. Let the whole earth shout to the Lord; be jubilant, shout for joy, and sing. Sing to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and melodious song. With trumpets and the blast of the trumpet, shout triumphantly in the presence of the Lord, our King. Let the sea and all that fills it, the world and those who live in it, resound. Let the rivers clap their hands; let the mountains shout together for joy before the Lord, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world righteously and the peoples fairly.”
Psalm 98 is a Christmas psalm—even though it was written centuries before Christ.
A. We Sing Because of What God Has Done (Ps. 98:1)
A. We Sing Because of What God Has Done (Ps. 98:1)
Salvation is God’s work from beginning to end.
B. We Sing Because Salvation Is for All Nations (Ps. 98:2–3)
B. We Sing Because Salvation Is for All Nations (Ps. 98:2–3)
This anticipates the wise men—Gentiles drawn to the Jewish Messiah.
MacArthur: “The birth of Christ marked the global scope of redemption.”
C. Even Creation Joins the Song (Ps. 98:7–9)
C. Even Creation Joins the Song (Ps. 98:7–9)
Seas roar.
Rivers clap.
Hills sing together.
Creation celebrates because the Judge is coming to make things right.
Life Application
Life Application
• We sing because salvation is real
• We sing because hope has entered the world
• We sing because brokenness will not have the final word

They gave gifts that reflected Christ’s mission:
• Gold — King
• Frankincense — God
• Myrrh — Savior who would suffer

• Christ deserves our best—not our leftovers
• Worship always gives before it receives
CONCLUSION — LET YOUR LIFE SING
CONCLUSION — LET YOUR LIFE SING
Light spreads quietly—but powerfully.
The same Christ who caused stars to shine
and nations to worship
now stands before every heart.
Nature sang.
Wise men worshiped.
Heaven rejoiced.
Now the invitation is personal.
Will you simply sing tonight—
or will you worship Him?
