TEXT: John 1:29-35
TITLE: Be A Witness
THOUGHT: Share What God has Showed You
TOPIC: Witnessing for Christ
TEACHING: How to Share the Revelations You Have Received
TOPIC INTRODUCTION: A False Witness
John 1:29–34 ESV
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
STORY START
There is a movie called Brian Banks. It’s a story about an alleged case of SA. Some woman claimed that she was sexually assaulted by this man. The accusation ultimately led to Brian being found guilty in a court of law and he was sentenced to six years in prison.
STORTY SETUP
Brian was a star football player, who had dreams of playing in the NFL. Through the entire ordeal Brian maintained his innocence. After serving 5 years brian set out on a quest to clear his name. Eventually the young lady recanted her testimony and admitted it never happened.
STORY SHIFT
This young man lost 5 years in the prime of his life, and his reputation and record were tarnished all because of a false witness. Someone testified to a lie. A good lawyer is careful about who they call as a witness because that witness can win or lose the cases.
STORY SIGNFICANCE
In the same way it very important that we become good witnesses for Christ because lives are on the line. It’s a bad thing when we don’t want to be a witness, but it’s even worse when we become bad witnesses. Our goal as believers is to be a good witness for the lord.
STORY SHAKE UP
I want to ask the question, which is worse, the witness that tells a lie and sends someone to prison, or a witness that knows the truth, but they keep quiet and let the person stay in prison. Knowing the truth and not telling it can be just as damaging as telling a lie.
