Inspiration (Scripture)
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 NKJV
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Revelation (Tension)
Matthew 24
Deception by false teachers (verse 5)
2. Dissension among nations (verses 6-7)
3. Devastation of the food supply (verse 7)
4. Disease in various places (verse 7)
5. Disasters around the world (verse 7)
6. Death for the sake of Christ (verse 9)
7. Disloyalty among "friends" (verse 10)
8. Delusion associated with false religions and drug use (verse 11)
Note: An increase in drug use will likely facilitate this delusion. In the End Times, false religion will be characterized by what Revelation calls "sorceries" (9:21). John uses the word pharmakos, from which we get the word pharmacy. It is an ancient reference to the ingestion of drugs. The use of mind-altering substances such as narcotics and hallucinogens will be associated with false religions, doubtless with the government's approval.
9. Defection from the faith and goodness (verse 12)
10. Declaration of the Gospel (verse 14)
Fear of Death- The End
Signs of the End can create fear or faith!
Hebrews 2:14 NKJV
14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
Hebrews 2:14 TPT
14 Since all his “children” have flesh and blood, so Jesus became human to fully identify with us. He did this, so that he could experience death and annihilate the effects of the intimidating accuser who holds against us the power of death.
Hebrews 2:15 NKJV
15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Application (Singular Point)
1. Jesus Return Comforts Us.
Biblical Prophecy is God’s transfusion of hope to our hearts. -David Jeremiah
1 Thessalonians 4:18 NKJV
18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
2. Jesus Return prepares us.
1 Thessalonians 5:1–4 NKJV
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
3. Jesus Return focuses us.
1 Thessalonians 5:5–6 NKJV
5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
What Should I Do?
1. I should think clearly
1 Peter 4:7 NKJV
7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
2. I should make a difference.
1 Peter 4:10 NKJV
10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
3. I should focus on relationships.
2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Transformation (What Changes?)
3 Questions:
What is God saying to you?
What are you going to do about it?
How can I pray for you?
