Bible Passage: Exodus 6:5-6

1. God Remembers and Responds

Exodus 6:5
God’s promises are never broken, and He’s showing that His faithfulness and covenant for His people is never broken EVEN when it looks dark and hopeless.
During this holiday season, the coming new year, its easy to see the darkness and hopelessness - its almost amplified in a season thats supposed to be the opposite.
You might be here today in that place - you might be watching in that place - God sees you and He hears you.
He heard the groanings of the enslaved people and He acted because they remembered Him.
God hears us when we cry out to Him and He responds with compassion and action. Even Jesus, when on the cross cried out to the Father.
When we’re crying out to God, don’t only cry out but stop and listen.

2. Promise of Powerful Redemption

Exodus 6:6
God delivers His people from their oppressors and displays his power and authority.
God’s deliverance is both for now and the future. Its reality and its hope.
Just like God liberated and freed Israel form Egypt, Christ liberates and frees us, giving us a new identity in Him.
We all know what its like to feel wronged?
When we’re wronged, when we’re taken advantage of- we want some sense of justice. We want to be avenged! At least for things to be made right.
Over the years, we’ve been
Watch this: Scripture
The Israelites were in need to redemption and their savior redeemed them. He not only freed them, but He took care of their enemy.
Why doesn’t it feel like this today?
Well, I’ll tell you why - we’re not fighting against flesh and blood. God did not come to deliver your enemy into your hands to hand out punishment. He came and defeated THE enemy and leaves us all in a place to be redeemed.
You see, God demonstrates His redemption in the Old Testament by rescuing His people and defeating their enemies and then Jesus comes, defeats THE enemy and redeems us all!
So why do we still need to be redeemed if Jesus redeemed us already?
We still have a sin nature. Our flesh.
So God is still avenging our wrongs, He’s still fighting evil. But it comes from us.
Think about it. Instead of God redeeming the Israelites by defeating and army who’s chasing them, Jesus redeemed us by defeating the flesh inside us. By giving us a new life in Him.
Its not that we are the enemy, but our flesh has the nature of the enemy.
We want to be avenged from ourselves?
Isaiah 44:22 NASB 2020
“I have wiped out your wrongdoings like a thick cloud And your sins like a heavy mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.”
We’ve been made new.
Through Christ’s redemption, we can all be redeemed and return to God.
Our personal struggles are the start of the road to redemption - because without them, we wouldn’t need redeemed.
