Intro - History

Hebrews 5: 11-14

When we open up Hebrews we look and it does not have an author but that’s okay and can sometimes can be good, we know and understand that the true author of the book is the holy spirit. And that whoever did write the book was used as writer of the word of God.

some believe that it was Paul and some Luke but we do know that its scripture and it was intend for us to read.

Why did this letter get sent why was this book of the bible written

This letter was written in around 64-68 A.D it was when the Jewish groups of believers where taking on heavy fire for There faith and they began to start to stray from the faith because it almost became easier to turn it down and instead of staying on the teachings of the time, they were going back to O.T worship. and to keep in mind these were people that had been in the faith for a while. group of people who should be further along then others ones who know the word and should have been a step above by now. but even then they still turned away and started going back to old forms of worship.

Verse 11 : Dull of Hearing

Before this first verse that we are in. in the first part of chapter 5 it is talking of Jesus teachings.

we hear the writer say its is hard for you to understand hard to be able to be explained because you are “dull of hearing” and the best way i have learned to put this is kind of when you don’t wanna hear something when you think you know it all when you think you have the right idea you begin to close your ears. you start to think that well I’ve got this I’m saved and what else is there i know I’m going to heaven so what else is there I’ve got it we are all good.

for anyone who is wondering, if you ever think you know it all your probably not even close.

you start to get lazy not listening having dull hearing you. that is a problem when you stop growing you start to fall.

so many time a lot of times in my life when i had thought i had the right idea and became dull of hearing to my own father i fell and fell fast. without the knowledge with closed ears when your dull of hearing you lose your way. there isn’t anything firm to stand on if you think its all you.

you cant get passed the hard parts the hurdles when you have had closed ears or have been dull of hearing.

especially with The word of Christ.

if you close your ears from christ if you begin to think I’ve got this i can just drift on by with ease. like i said before I’m saved I’ve got this now its time to just go to church you will fall.

Verse 12 : What are you not getting ?

By now you should be teachers. by now you should be teachers. you have been at a place to where if you wanted it if you would be above where you are now. You very well could be

“you ought be teachers “ you should be the ones teachings not the ones needing to be taught.

so now Where we are at in the passage is that the author hear is telling these Guys is Hey you know Jesus but because of your dull of hearing because you have had closed ears. You need to be taught again. and he says it not in a way of asking. there is not a question mark on the end of it the author is saying. you need it.

Oracles (logion) this is the Greek term for Oracles it means to sum it up.( Divine teachings) so every teaching that Jesus had brought while he was on earth or the teachings of God.

And they say basics.

These Jews don’t even know the simplest teachings. And these are Jews the chosen people of God the ones Jesus was on the earth with and they don’t know the basics. Because they were dull of hearing. and it shows like i just talked about they were going back to O.T worship. and they were also under heavy persecution at the time.

Which I mean no wonder what’s a better time then to attack people for there belief when they don’t even know what they believe.

“You need Milk not solid Food”

“your immature in your faith “ that’s what that means your weak in your faith you have a child like faith you cant handle teachings you can handle this passage which back then a letter to them but there saying you can hardly understand any of what i have said so far because your immature.

its the problem with all of it.

from the first part of the passage till now. Because your like a child you don’t listen to the teachings. as far a long as you are you don’t know anything. and now your going in reverse because you don’t understand the teachings of Jesus.

Talk to everyone

Being immature in your faith in your study in your knowledge is what will hurt you the fastest.

you have nothing to lean on your weak. Don’t let the reason you don’t grow any further be because you thought you knew it all. knowledge goes a lot further then just in here. i cant tell you and give you everything from a sermon on Sundays Braden cant give you everything you need on a sermon.

You cant just come to church on Sunday and Wednesday and expect that to be all you need. if you think that’s where you are gonna gain your knowledge your still just on milk and need to be taught.

you don’t wanna get to God and him ask why are you hear and all you can say is cause Braden said. The whole reason for the bible is to learn is for you to grow personally with christ

i have never opened the bible and said yep knew that. Every day you open it you learn something new.

if you have your ears open and wanna hear it.

you can read the bible alone you can read it 100 times a day and still get it wrong. if your not willing to listen.

If you think your getting solid food from Just Sunday a Wednesday. you need to be taught again.

Verse 13: immature in the faith

to live on milk is to be weak in the faith. you cant live your life on the simple things, babies do not live on milk forever. Eventually one day ever one has to leave just the milk. staying on the milk makes you week, you need more then just milk to grow to get stronger.

“unskilled in the word of the righteous”

when your unskilled on the word of the righteous how can you be righteous how can you even get close.

you have nothing to keep you afloat

to start to be righteous to start to understand Jesus to grow to get stronger in the word. you must have the solid food.

verse 14:

solid food is for the mature. the strong in the faith. not the weak

there is a reason we don’t give babies food they cant handle it.

if you you stay on the milk you cant get to the righteous

solid food is for the mature the ones who have discerment. seprate good from evil

without discernment how to do we get strong how do we learn.

if you havent figured out the milk is the teachings of God you cant stay on the milk forever

so I have spoke of the weak and the strong. and i have talked about solid food and milk where am i going what am i talking about why did i bring this message.

well this week i went to passion and if you don’t know what that is its a group of college aged kids who get together and worship and listening to preaching. and one thing that i thought was werid was when i started this sermon God had put this sermon on my heart and i thought maybe going to passion would answer it maybe going there would help me right this sermon and in a way it did but it didnt it wasnt till on the ride and till last night when fixing everything up i got a conviction. i got a thought What happend this week that was a problem what was it that you took from it. and you know my answer was werid it was nothing. NOTHING i got nothing and finishing up this sermon after having conversation with some people i relized i was dull of hearing I thought man i go to siminary and i an going to siminary im getting a degree.

But you know what what if i would of. because I thought what i knew and what i wanted to say was enough it keept me from hearing anything more. i myself wasnt listing and i was taking myself from being feed, which i understand maybe i wouldnt have but what if i did. i was keeping myself from learing and growing and being feed even my self.

And i said i didnt take anything from passion. which was my fault but i did see something.

people who want solid food and who need it...!!!!!!!

we get on this idea and its a very common thing to start to think this generation these people aren’t going to make it Jesus is gone from our generation.

well what i saw this weekend was diffrent I saw 45,000 18-25 year old’s hungry for some Jesus

and i don’t bring this up to say hey this generation is the best and just talk to older generations i’m talking about everyone yes even my kids especially you seniors you will be 20 before you know it and time moves fast so i want you ya’ll to listen everyone even my self

If you want someone younger if you want people who are new to faith to get it right to understand if your gonna tell them to read your bible you need to to you cant excpet someone your kids your freind’s your family to be on the solid food if your only on the milk.

you’ll never know it all you’ll never get strong enough there is always something to learn. and it matters it matters
