The Word
The Word
Christ is called the Word.
It is through words that we know someone’s heart, character, and will. Christ is called the Word because it is through Him that we most clearly see God’s heart, character, and will.
Hebrews 1:1–2 says that God has spoken to us by His Son. (See John 1:18)
Psalm 138:2 tells us that God has exalted above all things His name and His word.
The Word Was God
The Word Was God
Christ is eternal.
John 17:5 “And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.” (See Isaiah 9:6, Micah 5:2)
Christ is distinct from God the Father.
Genesis 1:26 says, “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. (See Matthew 28:19)
Christ is God.
There is only 1 God, but there are 3 distinct persons in the Godhead.
Hebrews 1:3 “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,” (See John 10:30, Matthew 1:23)
Christ is the creator of all things.
Colossians 1:16 “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.”
Christ is the Source and Sustainer of life.
1 John 5:11 “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”
John 17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
Christ is the Light of the World.
John 12:46 “I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.”
Christ came to overcome the darkness.
1 John 2:8 “At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.”
