Introduction

Greeting
Tonight we are going to continue in Matthew looking at the sermon on the mount.
So if you have a Bible turn with me to Matthew chapter 5.
While you’re turning there I want to talk about infleuncers for a while.
I rather new concept is social media influencers.
They started with youtubers. But they are pretty much all the same model.
Starts with content.
Then they get popular.
They make a product. ($60 T-shirts) (Beef-sticks) (Chocolate Bars) (Toys) And all sorts of overpriced poor quality stuff.
With this they also do brand deals.
They will be sponsored by people and they pretend to use their poducts. (The Lady saying she took diet pills for months but the bottle was full).
Influencers do these things becasue they have influence. When a “famous” person tells you to do something you are more likley to do it.
Also when a influencer does something his or her followers are likly to follow suit, that’s why they make good people for marketing.
I bring all of these up because today we are going to talk about being a Christian influencer.
In todays Passage Jesus is going to compare Christians to Salt and to Light. I know that this is a rather pupular passage but I ask that you guys will approach this with a fresh set of eyes.
So let’s look at Matthew 5 starting in verse 13.
Matthew 5:13–16 ESV
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Let’s pray before we begin.
